    Need help 1989 100hp johnson GT100

Unhook the black and yellow wire from the powerpack and with the motor harness plugged in like normal and the key off, check for continuity to the motor ground. Stated another way, put the meter either on ohms or continuity where it beeps, and with the key off, touch one wire from the meter to...

    1970 mirrocraft sport fisherman

The treated wood problem is again a dissimilar metal problem. It's the copper in the treatment that corrodes the aluminum. Now with that said, you can put the same batch of treated wood in two different boats and they will react differently. It can depend on the alloy mix and how well the...

    1970 mirrocraft sport fisherman

Out of curiosity, what is that putty you glued those metal cross members down with? Are they made of aluminum? If that's steel, it'll be a pile of rust in no time at all from the dampness/humidity. Plus it's too heavy. Now you could go and coat it, but I think I'd come up with another idea.

Help with Battery issues after stereo install

I know y'all know this, but I'll say it anyway. It depends on the length of the wire to and from whatever is being powered. The longer the wire the less current it can carry without to much voltage drop. Heck you can power less sensitive equipment with 12 amps in 16 ga wire if the total run is...

    Just bought a 1985 Sea Nymph FM-161

Them old mercury's don't fare well sitting up, so run her as much as you can. I just reworked a homemade aluminum work boat that has been sitting up about 10 years. I got ahold of some cheaply priced 1/8" thick diamond plate and put in there for the floors and sides. Got a Johnson 90 hp V4 on...

    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Maybe try a few heating and cooling cycles when a propane torch. May be enough to loosen it from the cylinder walls.

    Is 90hp ob enough??

I had a 14 ft Duracraft V Hull with a 1972 Evinrude 65 hp triumph on it. My cousin was a hotshot slalom skier. I took him out in my boat one day and he joked about being able to hold it back on takeoff. He got in the water and signaled he was ready and I punched it. Liked to have snatched his...

2016 Alumacraft transom rotted completely out.

Right now all you can see is aluminum cause it's completely covered. I plan to take it all apart to replace it later, probably first of October. I'll take a bunch of photos then. You can put a C-clamp on it where the motor would be and it'll squeeze down to 1/2"or less. Rotten wood dust...

2016 Alumacraft transom rotted completely out.

Bought a 2016 15/42 Alumacraft from a guy I work with. It looks like new except some slight marks where a trolling motor was clamped onto the transom. Upon a closer inspection once I got it home, I discovered all the wood had completely rotted out of the transom. I pulled the nails holding...

    65hp evinrude no power

I'm not sure I'm buying all that y'all are selling. I mean no disrespect, however I've got an 82 model 90 hp with 140 psi on cylinder number 3. If you look through the intake cover, you can see a pretty scored piston skirt. Likely from that one cylinder overheating or some dummy cranking on...

    65hp evinrude no power

Just curious, is the paint scorched on the head? Even if the piston is fried, 140 psi is good. It should run fine. For peace of mind, I would have to pull the head and see what they look like.

    Is my regulator bad?

If it's got an unregulated rectifier, you may see 16 or so volts at wide open throttle. If regulated, should stay below 14.5 volts at WOT. Either scenario is normal.

1995 evinrude 90 hp pees at idle but doesn't when running higher rpms

It could be the hub inside the impella slipping when rpms increase. When the friction is overcome, it slips.

Will not turn over with all plugs on.

Oh, and don't use a deep cycle battery on it. Use a cranking battery.

Will not turn over with all plugs on.

How old are your battery cables and what gage are they. Remove them and check the resistance with an ohm meter. I had one doing that recently and once I put new fine strand marine cables on it it'll turn over with almost no resistance. I cut the old ones open and some of the copper had turned...

    Manually tilt 1972 65hp evenrude

If I'm not mistaken the yellow is electric shift. I'm with racer, the bracket that holds the motor on the boat on the starboard side is missing. The trim pin is also missing. Maybe that allowed it to go down to far and it's just stuck.

    After market carb kits

I've used them before and regretted it. Some of the gaskets aren't even compatible with gasoline. They swell and get distorted. I've heard of the jets that come with them having the right numbers with the wrong size holes. I'd steer clear of them.

Cooling and compression quandary: 1982 Johnson 115hp Sea Horse

Looks like the heads may be scorched from overheating. They are a brownish color. Bet there is major galding and scoring.

Smells like gas sludge from L.U.

Could be the gasket on the lower exhaust housing too. Unburnt oil and gas will leak there if the seals go bad.

    Carburetor frustration

Make sure you didn't put the floats in upside down or something. What kind of shape is the foam in the cowling in? Maybe it sucked some into the reeds.
