2-Stroke Intermittent Bogging During Break-In (25:1 oil mix)

Try checking the temp right after shutting it off instead of while running. I noticed that if I hit it with the IR gun while idling, I'd get false numbers. Remember it reads from a laser bouncing back and I'm pretty sure that it refracts the laser when shaking and oscillating while running...

What are good internet places to get vintage Evinrude parts?

I see vendors on eBay all the time that have old new stock from estate sales etc. I just buy from them. If old stock items aren't available, then I buy used.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Yea, I'm grateful it didn't start pouring out while underway. Also, you never know what type of sketch repairs someone made on something before you got it. I'll be looking for JB weld on any tanks I get in the future.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Yea, it's final resting place was at the rear of the boat on the ground. There no smell of gas there now. Been in the upper 90s here and it was in the bright sun. Oddly enough you can't really tell there is or was about 40 ounces of oil there. No streams or anything around.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Well, to be fair, it wasn't leaking when I was running it or when I parked it. That only happened after it sat a few days. I would never allow fuel to be leaking anywhere anytime, ha ha.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Well I'm actually an environmental scientist and no that does not meet the criteria for becoming a superfund site, ha ha. The fuel is gone but the oil lingers. Bacteria will make a meal of it soon enough.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Not overheating. I shot it with an IR thermometer and it was running 138. If carbs are plugged, they are equally plugged because all 4 plugs were identical. I don't think that's the case though cause it ran flawless. Checked the timing as well and it was spot on. I think it all is a result of...

Yea, lots of schooling to be had, ha ha.

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Decided to run 87 Octane E10 in my 1983 Johnson 90 hp V4. First thing that happened was a couple of days later, an old plug made of JB weld in the bottom of my tank softened up and 15 gallons drained to the ground. Yea that hurt, ha ha. Anyhow, after running a few hours, I pulled the plugs and...

22' starcraft islander, crack(s) in hull -- aluminum repair options?

Be sure to drill the ends of the cracks to stress relieve them. Whatever you do, don't put heat on them or they'll run on you. I've seen plenty of those patches put on with sealed blind rivets and 5200 from just the outside. Best is with solid rivets if you have access to both sides. Be sure...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

If you have a smoking hot wife with a bikini 10 sizes too small, all the men don't mind waiting while you launch and retrieve your boat. 😁 Funny how folks are.

    Link 'n Sync help - '84 Johnny 90hp

You pull that Carter key out that's in the post close to the roller, remove the washer, pull the plastic piece off the post, screw it out to retard the timing and screw it in to advance it for pickup timing, then put it back on the post, put the washer back on, then the carter key back in. Run...

Johnson J90TLCNB 1982 90 hp; speedy sleeve for driveshaft?

Following up on this for future reference. This worked perfectly. When I put it on there, I put the tapered collar side down and it was almost the exact same taper as the drive shaft and fit like a glove. This collar is used to install the sleeve and can be left on or removed if needed...

    Mud daubber dust in engine

I have a Honda 4 wheeler, I cleaned the carb on 2 times before I found a mud daubber nest in the air intake snorkel up near the gas cap under that plastic cowling by the tank. I noticed the when I took the cover off the airbox it ran perfectly, then figured it out. I hate them things.

Outboard will only start when given 10%-30% throttle. Will not start when given full throttle or half throttle.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's running a little lean on the slow speed, but that's just a guess.

Johnson J90TLCNB 1982 90 hp; speedy sleeve for driveshaft?

Does anyone happen to know the diameter of the driveshaft in thousands of an inch where the seals run just below the water pump housing? Getting back to this now. Wanting to see if there is a speedi sleeve that'll fit it. I can take it apart to mic it, but if anyone knows off hand, would be...

    1974 Evinrude 25hp wont run.

My nephew got a plastic tank off of Amazon and had the same problem. I immediately pulled the fitting off the tank and discovered the dip tube had a bracket holding it to the tank fitting and the tube wasn't even fitted well to the fitting the hose connects to. Was pulling up a little fuel and...

Transom Corrosion & Alumacraft not honoring warranties

I have a hard time believing ALUMACRAFT is putting pressure treated wood in their transomes. I just replaced the wood in a 2016 15ft ALUMACRAFT John boat and it was completely rotted out. No way pressure treated wood would have done that. Also, the inside was raw aluminum directly against the...
