Is my regulator bad?

I’ve got a 90 HP 1995 (?) Evinrude 2-stroke outboard. We’ve had some problems with yhd battery not having enough juice at the end of the day to start the engine. I checked the starter & battery with an electical system tester: the starter was good, the battery came up on the borderline between “good” & “weak.” It’s quite old, so I bought a new battery, but I wanted to just check the charging system also, b/c we have a trip coming up in a month.

I measured the voltage and at idle, it’s 12.7v. Raise the throttle a little, 13.0, 13.1, 13.2... Was on shore with earmuffs, so didn’t want to push it any faster, but the higher the rpm, the higher tge voltage.

Does this sound like a failing regulator, weak stator, or is everything ok?

Thanks.
Al.

If it's got an unregulated rectifier, you may see 16 or so volts at wide open throttle. If regulated, should stay below 14.5 volts at WOT. Either scenario is normal.

Take a shore charger with you, just in case. Vacations are like that. Make sure you have a fresh impeller (check cooling system).
