    Yes if it's the external twin ram. Here are some instructions in case you don't have a manual. Don't try to drive the tie bolt out of the spacer, just remove one clamp bracket and the 2 nuts and pull it out.

    Which ignition do I have? 1968 mercury 500

    My best guess without seeing pictures is the Lightning energizer type with a large red coil, this is electronic ignition no points, but there is a timing belt under the flywheel that might need replacing.

    This is how the trigger works in the breakerless Tbolt ignition. Your problem might be with the trigger or you might have the early version with points, can you post a picture of the distributor?

    Have you bled the system? also take the lower mount bushings and out and grease them and check to see that the tilt bracket is moving freely. I think there are grease fittings on it too.
