    A faulty mechanical fuel pump can leak gas into the oil. Pull the clear hose that runs from the fuel pump to the carb and see if any gas is in it. Should be dry, if the diaphragm in the pump fails it's suppose to divert the fuel that would have leaked in the bilge into the carb instead.

    I use an older Craftsman 28 20522, that was made here in the US. It has a red handle and always grips and removes my old filters. Most of their stuff is made in China now, so not sure about their current wrenches. There's an NOS one for sale on Ebay like mine.
