    Mercruiser 3.0 hard cold start

The back side of the fuel pump has an arm that is operated by a lobe on the camshaft. If the diaphragm fails gas can enter the oil from the back side of the fuel pump. That clear hose is on the back side(engine side) of the diaphragm. As a test, pull the hose off the fuel pump and fire it up, if...

1977 mercruiser 302v8 out drive help

It looks like the engine model would have been called the 888 which was made from '71-77. The drive would be the MC-1 model drive. Your drive should have a gear ratio of 1.50:1 which is done with the gears in the upper half of the drive. The gears in the lower half of the drive allow you to go...

    Mercruiser 3.0 hard cold start

A faulty mechanical fuel pump can leak gas into the oil. Pull the clear hose that runs from the fuel pump to the carb and see if any gas is in it. Should be dry, if the diaphragm in the pump fails it's suppose to divert the fuel that would have leaked in the bilge into the carb instead.

    Shifting very difficult

There shouldn't be any play there on the cable itself. So at the engine side, you have no movement from the cable at all, and do have movement at the drive end? How old is this cable. In your first post you mentioned "Had the bellows, lower shift cable and gimble bearing replaced! Now for...

    Overheating mercruiser 3.7l lx

If it's climbing to 150º in 5 minutes, you aren't moving water, either coolant or seawater. So far you bypassed the seawater hose running through the transom, and voltage regulator on the seawater side. Pop the seawater hose off the heat exchanger on the outlet side of the heat exchanger and...

    Mercruiser 470 Starter

I have to admit, I didn't know that myself. lol.. I've always had my original starter rebuilt. We have great local shop that does alternators and starters. You should see his shop, it's a disaster of parts scattered, but he knows what everything is. The last time I went there, I didn't even...

    Mercruiser 165/470 cooked a coil

The trigger wire for the alternator should be getting full 12 volts when running, which shouldn't be off the (+) of the coil, you could get it from the purple wire on the electric choke. The wire between the choke and coil should be the resistance wire which should lower voltage down to...

Looking to replace the points with an electric ignition

Yeah, that inline plastic fuel filter wouldn't be Coast Guard approved if you get inspected. Fuel filters, strainers, and their connections must withstand a 2-1/2 minute fire test conducted as described in 183.590. After the fire test, the filter or strainer is to be subjected to a 3-foot head...

Best wrench to remove 5.0 water separator filter

I use an older Craftsman 28 20522, that was made here in the US. It has a red handle and always grips and removes my old filters. Most of their stuff is made in China now, so not sure about their current wrenches. There's an NOS one for sale on Ebay like mine.
