1977 mercruiser 302v8 out drive help

Hey everyone I have a 1977 302 v8 in my boat. I would like to order an new water pump for the out drive. But I know nothing about this engine/ out drive combo I do have the serial number off the outdrive.

4457217. Can anyone help me I’d what outdrive it is and what part number the water pump kit is please Thanks in advance

It looks like the engine model would have been called the 888 which was made from '71-77. The drive would be the MC-1 model drive. Your drive should have a gear ratio of 1.50:1 which is done with the gears in the upper half of the drive. The gears in the lower half of the drive allow you to go from forward, neutral and reverse. You would want to get the factory service repair manual for it. Mercruiser manual #2 will cover your engine and drive.

Ayuh,.... You have an MC-1 outdrive,.....

There were only 2 raw water pumps used in it, those with a flush port screw, 'n those without the flush port,....

To answer your question on which water pump kit to get... I'm going to post a link to another thread that has the answer. Click here and scroll to post #17, one of our mods Achris answers it in detail. These numbers he gives are Mercruiser/Quicksilver part numbers, personally I like to stick with OEM for it.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.......ford!!!!!!!!!

No real reason to post here other than another ford thread, just make sure you r n r the base/ gasket assy as well
