Re: North Georgia get-together?

Its all relative. As compared to Monday? Yes. In general, Meh...

It was a lovely day to be on the lake, though. Clear skies, no wind. Lake was flat as a dinner plate. I think I may have seen 3 other boats moving on the lake the whole day. Definitely was able to give a "quick charge" to my batteries. Sometimes its nice to head out on the boat without any kids and just cruise around.

Allatoona is now 9 feet over pool. they are reporting many ramps and camping grounds closed due to flooding. I'm sure they will start draining to lower. Hopefully it will be good for the meet. I will be at the lake around Allatoona Landing this weekend, I'll see what I can find out.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Allatoona is draining down fairly fast. It's a little less than 7 1/2" up right now. All the gates are open and all the gennys are genning. Barring any heavy rain, probably back to normal in a week.

Sully - We must use different monitoring sites. I use this one, updated roughly hourly. http://allatoona.uslakes.info/Level.asp

I'm new here and I think it would be fun to met some of the people on this cool site. I would be up for a July cruise at either lake. Both are about 1.5 hrs drive for me.

Welcome Can'tSwim93. I've been up in your neck of the woods (literally, in the case of Blairsville) on my way to camp/boat up at Lake Chatuge. Can't say that I enjoyed trailering the boat up the mountains, but hopefully there is a new tow vehicle in my future that will change that.
Looking forward to meeting up with you all.

Eric, I know what you mean about the drive up to Lake Chatuge, its a bit taxing on the truck. However, the drive is well worth it. Lake Chatuge is really beautiful and pretty quiet. I like that you can get across the lake in 15 min at WOT. It is a very relaxing lake, with mountains all around.

I have a few others as well. One shows rainfall with lake level and other stats, roughly hourly updates. Lanier and Carters links too. And at times of low water, a listing of all the Allatoona ramps showing ramp top and bottom elevations - Works for high water but I use it for finding possible open ramps during the winter draw down. I'll post the links if anyone would like them.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Looks like the lake is just about back to normal. Trying to think where would be a good place for the get together??? The lower or south part of the lake seems to have the most campgrounds, ramps and docks. Maybe we should just pick a cove as a meeting place and go from there ???

Re: North Georgia get-together?

I don't know anything about Lanier, On Allatoona the Clear Creek cove has an abandoned camping area with a decent beaching area. Primitive is the best way to explain it. Only a suggestion.

The only suggestion I've seen so far was this one by GA Boater. I like another little cove, near the bridge into Red Top Mtn. Its a small cove, but its kinda cool.

I think you're talking about #1 in the attached. It's a good place. #2 is good too, behind an island and #3 is just south of the bridge has a decent cove formed by the island that's only an island at high water. #1 is protected nicely from wakes on the main lake. Any other ideas folks?

Yes, I'm talking about #1. It is nicely protected from wakes. I have beached up on that island before, its pretty cool, and slightly protected from wakes, depending on where you beach up.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Those are all real easy to get to from the Red Top ramp. #1 and 3 have some softish beach to drive onto. #2, not so much. #1 is usually quiet, a lot of times when I get tired of fishing I pull in there and vege out for a while.

Yep, they could work. I've been to all them. #1 most of the time when I've passed by there has been a lot of boats rafted together. The Red Top ramp doesn't work well for me, being no dock next to the ramp. I will most likely put in at the Blockhouse or use the Navy ramp. I will enjoy the ride to wherever we decide to meet up.

I really dislike the ramps with the dock separated like Red Top. I use them, but never happy about. A pain when by myself, which is most the time.

We are two weeks out for the Lanier date. I don't recall seeing plans for meeting? There are a few beaches still above water that we can meet at......Maybe a day use area? Sunset or Cocktail Cove?

Re: North Georgia get-together?

I keep my boat on Hartwell, but ever since my stroke, it hasn't been used. My son went up there a couple of times just to start the engine and make sure it's still floating.A get-together sounds like fun, I wish I could partake.

Have fun,
pat
