Re: North Georgia get-together?

Hello Eric, why don't we take a pole like you said and see who could be able to go to both lakes ?? I put in at the Blockhouse ramp on Allatoona, but that may not work for some people. I'll look around and see how other ramps look on the North end, or maybe someone could step in with some info. You could still keep the date of June 29th for Lanier and how about July 13th for Allatoona, thats my Birthday weekend ( Party Time ). But I'm open for whatever the group wants.

I have no preference to the weekend that we do it, just any time boating is a good time. LETS DO IT!

As far as where, I usually put in at Clark Creek south, which isn't too far from the Blockhouse. However, that ramp might be closed, it tends to fluctuate with the lake level. I've been to the Kellog Creek ramp a few times, its on the northern end of the lake, which tends to be more stable (water level wise). I like it up there. Might be a good spot to put in, as it doesn't seem too far from the Camp Site GA_Boater references. I am going out to the lake on Sunday to water test my new out drive seal job, and I am gonna check out that site, GA_Boater!

Now that sounds good, maybe Kellogg Creek would be good everyone, it has a lot of parking spaces and is on the north end. Your right about Clark Creek, it's closed. lets us know how your sealing worked and how the ramp looks. Thanks,

Cool, looking forward to it. Kinda bummed about Clark Creek, I liked the ramp, wasn't too long and seemed pretty deep, when the lake levels are up.

I can't wait for Sunday, supposed be like a spring day! High of 66, first time getting on the boat since last October. I don't worry about winterizing, I mean just to drain all the water only takes about 10 minutes, but I store my boat in my garage, which is AWESOME!

I usually go in at Red Top. Websters Ferry is almost right across the lake from Clear Creek. I've beached at the old camp site a number of times to go exploring. I have a tinny so my beaching choices aren't as stringent as a glass boat but it has a fair amount of sandy spots. There is an old ramp there, but no way to get to it except by water. It's good to have a second opinion, yjanray.

Any body else have any good spots in mind? Like I said, the place I mentioned is primitive with no facilities. Maybe not family friendly but I usually boat alone so I don't have the same needs as others.

Red Top is pretty nice, i've hiked around there before, but to get to the ramp would take me longer coming from Marietta. I've beached a few times at that little island south of the bridge that leads to Red Top Mountain ramp. If you are coming up from the south end of the lake, its right after you go through that really skinny part of the channel.

I've never camped at Allatoona. Can you camp on islands or on the shore that isn't associated with Red Top Mountain? Or is all the camping strictly core regulated.

Hope to see everyone soon!

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Okay, poll is posted. I made an executive decision and have set a couple of dates; Lake Lanier on June 23rd, Lake Allatoona on July 20th. If those dates are no good, please propose an alternate. As to locations, I'll leave Allatoona to the the folks who frequent the lake. The abandoned campsite is fine as long as we can get there.

For Lanier, we usually head for an island across the main channel from Port Royale Marina. Its accessible from both the east side and west side of the lake (its right next to Browns Bridge), and its easily accessible from multiple ramps (Baulus, Mountain View come immediately to mind) and there is usually not a lot of traffic. There is a fuel dock at the marina as well as a restaurant and a store.

Here is a screen-grab of the location

Key:
1. Fuel Dock
2. Mountain View boat ramp
3. Baulus boat ramp

Dates look good, Eric. A month between gives recovery time if needed.

I voted for either. Should be a good time at either place.

So went out on Allatoona on Sunday. Perfect day, sunny, blue skies!

Put in at Kellogg Creek, and it was packed! I guess first nice day in a while, got everyone out. Kellogg Creek parking lot gets a little cramped, not gonna lie. I donno, might look for a better place to put in, maybe Red Top.....

Anyway, my reseal job held water, well held out water! I swear, a nicely lubed up out drive, with no water in the lube, just runs better, is smoother, and all around is funner! Checked lube when I got home, no water in drive lube!!

Still looking forward to our get together, this little trip just made the boating fever worse, I thought it would scratch an itch, but its worse now! come on spring!!

yea, I did it.jpgenjoying the day.jpglou dog 2.jpgme driving.jpg

No water in lower = good news. Is the dock floating at Kellogg and all the ramps open? Last time I was there the right ramp was closed.

YES, yes it is good news. Yea, the dock was floating, but the right ramp was still closed. Water was merky though, but to be expected with all damn rain.

It's going to be murkier if the forecasters are right. Did you happen to get over to the Clear Creek cove?

Re: North Georgia get-together?

yea for real. Its hard to believe that yesterday was like it was, and today is just the opposite. No, didn't make it over there, got on the lake, and thought I would be a able to pull up this post on my phone, but couldn't connect to 4g up there, and didn't remember where you said it was.

Just an excuse to make a trip up there to check it out!

:welcome: WE. I know we have some Hartwell boaters around, can't remember who.

On the Allatoona side, I drove by and stopped at the Little River ramp (Cherokee Mills) this afternoon. Chocolate milk complete with chunky chocolate bits, unsweetened I think. Many, many logs and much debris in the water. Be careful on the lake The good news - Water is up and the dock is floating. Only 6.5' down now.

Thats too bad, guess it will be packed even more when season starts. You mentioned Red Top, are you talking about next to the bridge ?? I remember the road to get there is not boat friendly, and no floating docks. I'm partial to Blockhouse. Good thing is we still have time to look around. dang, can't wait.....

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Red Top is just off the road at the bridge, the road from I-75 to the ramp isn't bad in my opinion and has a dock on the other side of the point. Wait until Memorial Day weekend if you want to see crowds. At all the ramps

I live in Royston and boat on Hartwell most weekends. Also head to Russell and Burton on occasion.
