Re: North Georgia get-together?

Hey guys - Check this out, a post I put in Dockside Chat about Allatoona/Lanier boating. http://forums.iboats.com/dockside-chat/atlanta-area-boaters-safe-boating-free-corps-engineering-ramp-passes-593136.html

Thanks for that article. If anyone is interested, DNR is running a class at the Sunrise Cove Marina on March 9th. Class is free, but they have to have at least 3 people registered or else they will cancel. Currently they have nobody registered. Anyone interested?

Hey gang

Quick administrative note. I put the Lanier get-together on June 23rd, which is a Sunday (oops). The date should be the 22nd which is the Saturday. Sorry for the confusion.

If it's gonna be the July weekend, I'd love to join in. I'll be at the Florida get together for the entire 3rd weekend of June.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Just a heads up.....rumor has it that Lanier Islands is now charging for the docks at Sunset. There will be no more courtesy docks. They are also charging just to get on the beach so if you plan on getting off your boat in Sunset you will be charged.

Sounds to me like there may be a resurrection of Cocktail Cove!!

WARNING, THREAD JACK ABOUT TO OCCUR, SRY!

If anyone is interested, a group of us from LLBG (Lake Lanier Boaters Group) is holding a potluck lunch Saturday. Click the Facebook link in my sig and navigate your way

Saw the pictures on FB. Looks like it was a great day on the lake. We were out of town, else we would've been out there.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Just wanted to bump this up again. First date of June 22 is now close enough to start nailing down particulars. Lake is full (and then some) and my beach has disappeared. I know the COE will drop the lake level significantly over the next 7-8 weeks, but if anyone that is on the lake can scout a spot or two that would have enough beach for beaching, grilling, etc, lets put it out there. I'll be on the lake this week (finally) so I will keep an eye out for a good spot.

I think most the beaches are covered with water (does that sound dumb or what?) until the level drops to normal. And plenty of log hazards are bobbing around too.

I won't be out again until the 18th but will look out then. Some friends have mentioned somewhere on 3 Sisters may be a good spot. We'll be up and down the lake that day so i'm sure to find a few spots.

Is it preferred to be on the north or south side?

I forgot we're talking about a Lanier meet in June and an Allatoona meet in July. My comment about the floating timber was aimed at Allatoona, but the all rain lately it probably applies to both lake.

Are we doing both meets?

Lanier is populated with debris as well, use caution!

Re: North Georgia get-together?

I thought we had some that preferred one over the other, so we went with one on each lake. Some will do Lanier and some will do Allatoona, and some will do both.

Anytime the water rises, especially above full pool, timber is picked up off the shore and gets blown all over the lakes. And the wind has been howling lately.

I have both on my calendar. The Allatoona trip is going to require someone familiar with that lake to take point. I don't even know where to put in there.

I'll be keeping a good eye out. I'll be out there on Tuesday to take a "mental health" day.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

Wow. Went out on Lanier yesterday, and I did not see ANY real beaches. Actually, I ran aground in a "cut" that used to be a beach, but is now under water. I'll assume with more "aggressive" water releases the lake will be closer to full pool by Memorial Day.

On an unrelated note, I just wanted to point out to the North GA gang in and around Cumming, there is a new entry in pure-gas.org in our area. Apparently the Quik Stop at the intersection of Canton Highway and Bethelview Rd (west side of Cumming, en route to Rome on Hwy 20) is selling E0. Last summer when I checked, the only things that came up in the Cumming area was Bald Ridge Marina. Cost is about a dollar a gallon less than at the marinas on Lanier. I'll be confirming that they do in fact have E0 next week.

Is your "mental health" improved? :) If the rain slows down, things will return to normal soon.

We are a funny bunch! Fill the lakes, fill the lakes. OK, enough already, stop filling the lakes.

Its all relative. As compared to Monday? Yes. In general, Meh...

It was a lovely day to be on the lake, though. Clear skies, no wind. Lake was flat as a dinner plate. I think I may have seen 3 other boats moving on the lake the whole day. Definitely was able to give a "quick charge" to my batteries. Sometimes its nice to head out on the boat without any kids and just cruise around.
