Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Once you are pretty close to being done glassing in the stringers, I would think that making drain holes in the stringers wouldn't be all that hard to do.

thats a cake walk red.

im thinking about the unfinished ends of the stringers. ..(bow ends).....

i just wanna finish the fronts of them so to channel the water away from pooling at the base of the stringers.....that 1/4 inch will take 5 years off the craft...if finished...it will add 5 years....ill post picks on it thursday afternoon.

Fixing Washers And Dryers? You funning me? Thats my trade. Been doing that 25 yrs+.

Thats freaky ifn its true.

uh....let me see

....you need a spanner wrench to take the collar off whirlpool washers so you can get at the spin tube.......

also on whirlpool washers....(belt drive)...i used to put washers under the springs to put more tension on the clutch, so it would hit the plate on the spin tube better....that made it grab better.......

and rebuilding ge clutches (belt drive) is a waste of time .......

it takes 15 minits to change a coupler on a dd whirlpool washer.

i started my store in my carport with one dryer i bought out of an auction :)
after 2 years in my carport the neighbors complained about the brick and sears semis dropping off cores for me to fix and sell.....i was buyin core units for 10 bucks a pop, fixing them and selling them for 150. they called the city on me so i had to get a store front.

now my main line is mattresses, but i still do a lot of laundry....fridges are big here in the summer, as compressors tend to pop in the heat of our summers.

now i got bit by the boat bug....

dont know where you boat....but we fished lac la nonne by barhead every weekend for years. !

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

all i wanted to do last night was to finish glassing the motor mounts and the outer stringers.....

the glass was allready pre cut to an overlap style.

picgroup33001.jpg

i needed to re cut it so it would not wrap the stringers.

picgroup33002.jpg

i layed the glass and finished up the stringers in quick time...
i had the resin and the glass so i cut a few extra strips, just tie ins on a few left over areas.

picgroup33003.jpg

i glassed that all in and added another peice of 1708 to the bilge.....

picgroup33004.jpg

tonight i want to clean up the glass bu grinding the caps of the stringers, glassing the caps and adding the pool prevention in front of the stringers and problematic areas.....

when thats done...i just glass in the motor mounts and its deck time ! :D

Just new to boating.. got a place on Lac St.Anne by Gunn 1.5 yrs ago. all trees... finally got space for a trailer and yard for the wee-uns. Wife wanted a boat... so here I am.

Should have read this forum before I bought a bottom dwelling hull!

All those years of trying to keep water IN the tubs..(dishwasher and washer tubs) Thought it would be good training to keep water OUT of tubs (my current boat and possibly subsequent ones.):D :D

Anyway back to the boat. I heard you're battlin a deadline - Good luck :)

Keep up the good work. My Batboat isn't nearly as big as your project is!!

I like to think that the Bat is something I am able to handle and do a good job with like yours.

If you need the glulam, call me with the dimensions and I can see what I can do. Otherwise, see you tommorrow, at about noon. No promises, but I do work for the largest forestry/wood products research organization in the world, and the guy next door in the wood products lab likes his beer. Throw a case infront of him and I am sure he will find something.

Have a great day,

Rob.

You can laminate your own if you can't find any... I've done so in the past for headers using allthread as a really big clamp. Around here I'd just get a section of beam from Home Depot or menards... they sell it as "engineered lumber" by the foot.... although scrounging a cast-off or spare piece will cost less :)

OOps: I am in awe of you. I have done a restoration on a 25' Classic and am presently restoring a 20' SunRunner, but what you have been doing is simply amazing, and gutsy. I've really enjoyed reading your "diary", seeing your pictures, and reading the comments of other readers. My hat's off to you. Congrads and best wishes for a successful completion and launch, and years of happy, satisfying, and safe boating. Hy.

You said it Hy. I am in awe watching oops do this project! It's awesome.

Also, Oops, I've been meaning to mention to you that my first memorable boating experience was right there in Kelowna. I learned to water ski and drive a boat for the first time there on Okanagan Lake. I was about 17 years old. What a beautiful place. My friends family has a cabin on the lake there. We went cliff jumping and drove their old boat all over the lake for a few days. It was a blast.

Anyway, good luck on getting that deck in tomorrow!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

so i jumped on the boat at 8 am today....hoping to get a head start on the sole.......i had a few errands i had to do...(work)....

so i started leveling the sole......then i got called away.....

i didnt get back on it till 530 pm.....

at 630 i got the crazy idea to lower the deck by 1 inch...(this is after everything was cut and shapped).....why ?...i dont know...so i had the measuring tape out.....2 1/2 hours i putzed with it and debated with my self....

then i realized,.... all this over an inch.....i coulda had it glassed in that time. !

so i just finished the leveling...(kinda...i got two sections to go), and packed it in for the night.

(btw....i forgot my camera...ill get pics tommorow and sunday)

cheers
oops
