Man, all I can say is....

Wow!

You're one ambitious son of a gun there Oops! (Ward?) Like Ward Cleaver?

It's gonna be a helluva boat, there's no doubt!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

You must have been excited to see it with the cap sitting on it. Finally get a clue what it's going to look like. It's the biggest closed bow "runabout" I've ever seen!!!!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

It looks kind of similar to an old-style wood runabout... they made 'em that long, inboard designs with three tiers of seats separated by varnished wood top cap, powered by a mid engine 10 or 12 cylinder.

Looks great as always, good luck on getting everything done before the move :)

its easy to work when youve got a shotgun to your head

the lines of the boat look a little dis-proportional....(is that a word?)

but with the style of wake tower going to go on, and the paint and sun pad...im hoping to "calm that down" a bit......

but its still not done......after the move...i have to find another shop....

the cap will be removed and sent to my electricans to be rewired, while i tackle the farring. im hoping to get a farring expert to do it so i can then do the bulkhead, bench seats sun pad and swim grid, ......

then off to paint !

cheers

Ha! Great picture with the cap on, really gives a better look at proportion...what an eel! You've got enough room behind that steering wheel you could put the furniture of a pontoon boat in it!

I've gone one concern about the boat that I'm sure you've already addressed or have an idea of what you are going to do/not do to address it.

With the extension, is there a problem with flex on the sides? I'm wondering because I'd think that you'd have a problem with that with the extra length. Like a plastic tub. A square one will hold water without distorting much, but the more rectangular it is, the more it will distort when filled with water ( stressed ).

If i am thinking right and someone let me know if i am wrong , but i dont think that is going to be a real problem the rectangular is shape with it having the V bottom and the beck is going to stop a lot of the flex of the boat . and with all the stringers the oops pit in , the thing is a tank a A-1 Aberams tank not a world war one tank !! So i really dont see the problem or the worrie !! Am i right ooops ?? John

oops! If I were you I'd be carful saying how strong and sea worthy your boat will be, the Canadian Navy may confiscate it from you, which would double the number of ships they have. They may wait until you get it painted with the theme you've picked though, as it will help with recruiting.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

red.... that was a concern.....

back in 69' sea ray made the sides thick.

with the extra layer of 1708 up the sides.

then the deck just the way it is...(just the bottom glassed in) it took two of us just to push in the sides to get the cap on......

once the cap is screwed, it will be solid.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

oops,

How is the search for a new workplace coming? I just can't imagine after all that work having that engineering marvel sitting outside. Especially with all of the lovely weather you have had lately.

I, and I assume the rest of the regulars on who are glued to this post, are sitting on pins and needles wondering what we are going to do without our daily dose of oopsgeneering. I truly wish you all the luck finding another garage.

I wasn't too concerned since you didn't seem to make much of a point of it all of this time other than to keep the lines stable with the rods. I was just thinking that the cap isn't really all that bulky back there.

But then again, most of my thinking is based off how they built this glastron of mine, and the sides are pretty thin. I guess when I get the cap back off, I should take a few more pictures just so it can be documented how the thing was built originally. Heck, it's lasted without cracking up built like this for the last 30+ years, I can't imagine it needed to be thicker.

That, and you seem to be like myself...over engineer a project so you know it's good

glasstrons were funny boats....our family had one....thin walls.....and a really thick hull in the keel....(thats why they were used in the james bond movie)

as far as over engenerring. i learned a lot from bond-o.....his simple statments like "when you build a hull...KNOW its strong enough...."

little things like that speak volumes ....and its totally true!

that whole wet foam thread was started outta a statment of his that stated that foam rots boats.

so if you build yours, and KNOW its strong enough. ....no worries :D
