Sorry, I don't have anything that size......I usually don't bore holes like that into things I own!:p I will ask my neighbour, he is a builder.

Yar Sr. is here from Ontario awaiting his grandson and I have my bro and his clan coming this weekend too.....If the little gaffer allows, I will be on the lake on Sunday with my bro. You going out this weekend?

Yar.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

What I would do,
Grab some birch 1/4'' ply, mark the 4'' hole with a compass.
carefully do the cut with a jig saw with a SHARP metal blade.
Once ya have that perfect, tape the ply where you want the hole's on your dash and use it as a template. The gauge should have a flange, mine does.

yeah....im trying to avoid the jig saw thing......but if i have to ...i will use it.

the really big deal is the exaust vents thry the transom....i need 4 ....four inch holes in that thing......that might be a job for a saws all.....but im still looking for a hole saw. if i cant find one soon....im just gonna cut it.....

i also have a rotary saw for the dash.....so thats no biggy

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

see if you can rent a big honkin hole saw ya never know....if you end up getting a dull one use a small 3 sided file to sharpen it, that transom is thick!!

Have you got any objections to purchaseing a hole saw? Here is a 4 inch hole saw and the mandrel you will need. It may be just as economical to purchase this one as it would be to rent one. Considering the cost of this one I would probably buy it and you would have it if you ever need it for anything else. Also, it is made by Milwaukee so it is a good quality saw. This is the same brand as most of mine.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I have a 6 inch that cost almost $80. I now have several sizes that I havent used yet. In fact, they are still in the original packaging. I found they were a lot cheaper on-line so I just put together an almost complete set. Im sure I will still run into a situation where I need to run buy one and will have to pay higher prices but Im trying to avoid it.

Yes they are cheap but I have yet to have any problems with those. At first I figured they may be made by Milwaukee but may have been a little less quality than the locally purchased saws. Turns out they are identical.

Also, I normally check on-line for anything I plan on purchasing before I actually but it. I have acquired a lot of my tools this way and not only came out cheaper but still got the same brand. I have quite a few I have only used once or twice but they come in handy when I do need them.

Any tool acquisition day is a good day...I spent good money on my grinder and keep it blown out so I'll have it for later. It's really not a tool that gets used for much, but when you need it, it sure is nice to have around...kinda like those air chisels you get with a compressor.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I've got a rotary tool with a circle guide that should work for a 4 inch hole. Need to start with a drill but it should work fine. How thick is the dash?

Again, I have to see if I can find it in all my crap in the shop.
