brand new regal, 5 problems already

New to the forum, thanks for reading.

I have a new 2012 Regal Fasdeck that is back in the shop for essentially the 3rd time in 6 weeks.

Trip 1 - Loose tensioner pulley caused the water pump to not operate. Towed back to marina by Seatow.

Trip 2 - Built in GPS maps quit working. Loaded a new SD card and software

Trip 3 - Alarm and gaurdian mode - low oil pressure. Oil inside engine bay, saturated strip of carpet beside engine with oil, dealer said its probably just the engine "breakin' in". Oil residue in many vertical and horizontal areas of engine bay.

No trips yet, just notified dealer:

1 - crack on swim deck where the bolt for the ladder goes through. Tech said Regal probably over torqued it.

2 - in direct sun on starboard side, you can see where someone wrote "wet" with their finger and then didn't sand it out, then later applied final gel coat.

Regal has zero QC. I have purchased an expensive piece of junk. I couldn't be more displeased.

All that aside, anyone else have this many problems with a new boat? I am beside myself after spending so much and getting a lemon.

Wow, and I thought Regal was a higher end brand. Makes my minor complaints with my new stingray seem even more minor.

I m sorry for your situation, but I sure hope you are in the minority with the problems you've had. I still wuld rank Regal as a quality brand.

Every mass boat producer will have a problem here and they,

Nothing more disheartening than buy new, and having problems already. I feel your pain. I could have kept my old boat if I wanted this, but I also bought new in 2010, Larson, and had issues from the onset... Does anyone do pre delivery inspections any more?? Good luck and stick with it get those problem corrected..

I think the dealer is blowing smoke up your butt, there is no way oil should be coming out of ANYWHERE, ANYTIME.

That's not oil, that's just sweat from all that horsepower.

It's good to know that engines spew oil in all directions during break-in mode. Good stuff.

It's amazing on how quick people are to blame the brand!

It was a brand new boat and the dealer is responsible for the set up and to insure things are right from the factory. The dealership actually gets paid to prep the boat by the brand (just like cars).

You need to be jumping all over the dealer instead of bashing the brand. Sounds like the dealer sold you a bill of goods and is failing to take proper responsibility.

I can feel you pain. I will say one thing to avoid downtime. You need to be able to fix your own junk. I've been fixing my junk for decades and finally decided to buy new. But I'm still fixing.
My new boat blew the high pressure line to the trim on the first splash. The new one is installed (by myself) and the dealer actually mailed the part to me. I bought the trim oil though.
Keep a tool kit on your boat and know how to use it. And it will get better. Last week I wanted this boat out of my driveway as I was so frustrated. But I'm heading out today and things are looking good.

You have got to be kidding, right?? Jump on them both, neither one did their job. For someone 500 miles away considering buying the same boat, information on his dealer is worthless. Information on the brand is valuable since the boat will likely come from the same factory.

Nosaj, That just sucks, and theres no excuse. Good luck working through it! Can't believe they had the **** to tell you the spilled oil was normal engine break-in stuff.

And one more thing I want to add. After owning a few new travel trailers and seeing what quality or the lack of that exists over various brands, I am assuming boats are built to a similar standard. If I ever buy another new boat I will have much lower expectations.

Agreed! Also if your going to bash the brand at least bash the right one. Sounds like the major problems have to do with the powerplant not Regal. The Regal issues seem minor and just need to be resolved under warranty. Buying new does not mean buying perfect, that's what the warranty is for. Get the issues resolved and enjoy that beautiful boat.:)

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

Thanks for all the replies.

The service department at the dealer has been very helpful at repairing things, althought some of these issues are their fault for not properly PDI'ing the boat.

As far as oil "seepage" as they call it, a corrupt GPS, a cracked swim platform, and "wet" being visible in the gel coat - its all on the brand. Regal probably has a certain threshhold for QC problems, but it sounds like its pretty high. I would recommend NOT buying a Regal of any kind.

Yes, the dealer is repairing all the problems. But just like my friend that bought a Kia because of the great warranty, his car is useless because its always in the shop. (Not a knock on Kia, just an observation).

Boat manufacturers should be held to the same standards as other consumer products. There are virually no consumer advocacy groups for boats. Who, besides the powerless consumer, can hold boat manufacturers, such as Regal, accountable? How many problems can you have on a new boat before you throw your hands up and give up fighting?

Its all a very sad state of affairs.

I still find it amazing that new boats have these issues.

I guess I don't understand, help me out. So it's the dealers job to rebuild a boat that the manufacturer halfa**built? A dealer is expected to sand out, paint and re-gelcoat a brand new boat?

I agree that the dealer should have never let this boat get to the consumer, but the same holds true for the manufacturer.

Maybe I really do not understand the role of the dealer vs manufacturer:confused:
