Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

Took the boat out today, within 20 minutes the GPS quit working again just like before.

What a joke.

Took me a few trips on the water before I had everything fixed. But once you get it sorted you will be alright. Took me two trips just to figure out they missed the tube for the speedo.

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

I'm curious, is that a Regal brand GPS or is it installed by the dealer. Just so you know I bought a new Regal cruiser, and had multiple problems with my boat the first two seasons I owned it. My outdrive was replaced after 2 seasons, major corosion. Microwave went belly up first season. CO2 detector would not stop beeping, 2nd season. Wiper Motor stopped working first season. Remote spotlight would not move, 2nd season and the list goes on. Structurally the boat is solid, some of the hardware is high quality and some is junk. I've had the dealer I bought the boat from tell me to contact the manufacturer of the items that broke. I called Regal and got some relief but had to make multiple calls to get any action. Funny thing, when I buy a car I don't call the manufacturer who built the radio for Ford/Toyota etc. I bring the car back to the dealer. No new Regals in my future...

Dealer was at my storage facility and had a complete new computer installed before noon today. I won't get to try it out until Friday or Saturday. I just hope it works for a change.

Agreed! Also if your going to bash the brand at least bash the right one. Sounds like the major problems have to do with the powerplant not Regal. The Regal issues seem minor and just need to be resolved under warranty. Buying new does not mean buying perfect, that's what the warranty is for. Get the issues resolved and enjoy that beautiful boat.:)

maybe not perfect,, but i disagree with low expectations. wheres the quality control? sending out a new boat with the paint screwed up with writing un der the clearcoat, oil leakage,, i would say they run the motor at the factory before its installed. so the brand thing well, ok. u have 2 brands to be pissed at. but when u buy a new boat your usually trying to get away from someone elses problems. not get a throw it out the door and get your money quick product. nothings perfect, but they should take care of u well after the new purchase. i did some research before buying my new boat. and i,m new at (ownership). but so far i,m happy. was gonna get a searay,, went with a tahoe Q5I. saved me 15 thou over the searay. looked at several boats and brands. the layout and price for what u get with the tahoe could,nt be beat. did,nt care for searays layout. and they can all have issues. good luck.

Engineers designed it, it should work.

This has got to be the most "disturbing" thing I've ever read.

Well I can't detail all the problems I've had with my 2011 Regal 2500 from the very beginning. 18 months later with maybe 120 hours it's still one thing after another. Spent twice as much for a new boat thinking maybe I would avoid the infamous problems but that was all wrong. What a totally horrible product! I've never owned a product so bad in my life, tomorrow I will go to work to try to get rid of this crap and get something that RUNS. All those who say "don't blame the brand" are full of canal water. My opinion is this is an awful product and I would never recommend it!

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

I am very sorry for your troubles.
March of last year I purchased a brand new Regal 1900 and I have nothing but good to say about the company and my dealer. The only issue I had was the depth sounder (notoriously flaky device) was giving me false shallow warnings. I told my dealer I wanted the transducer and the gauge it self replaced. He agreed, called Regal and they shipped him the new parts no questions asked. My trailer tail light blew on the first launch too (yes it was disconnected first) and my dealer replaced that free of charge too.

That has been the only issue (knock on wood) that I have had and I always get compliments about the fit, finish and quality feel of the boat. I know a 1900 has less to go wrong that your 2500 but I just felt it should be noted that there are some positive stories out there too. (Not trying to rub salt in the wound, I promise)

I could not be happier with Regal but I completely understand why you are not. I agree that you should contact the BoatUS consumer complaints department. I have heard and read about companies that have bent over backward to resolve issues and make the consumer happy once they get involved.

I wish you good luck and I am very sorry that you got stuck with a lemon of a boat and a dealer.

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

Glad to hear so far so good with your Regal although you've only owned it 4 months. Yes it's a great looking boat at a more reasonable price than high end models and nice features, which is why I chose it.

The first issue within the first month was a bad auto switch on the bilge pump which burned up the battery. Replaced under warranty. The upholstery "pinks" after the boat is covered for a week or so, the other day when I pulled the covers it looked like very serious bruising...red purple yellow splotches all over it. Kind of frustrating when you choose a boat partly on a nice quality appearance. They replaced some pieces and those fare better, but they have no idea what's going on with that. After a couple days in the sun the stains fade. False engine alarms (no error codes) can't figure out. Engine falters or quits can't figure out although replaced a bad sensor and some wiring under warranty. Auto switch on bilge failed off, luckily I discovered but next the starter went bad while we were out and had to be towed in (be sure you have Boat US or Sea Tow) replaced the part but I paid the dock service. Two weeks later went to take a group out all loaded up (hadn't run the boat since the starter was replaced) bad fuse on the console so dead in the water as they say. Individually minor issues but gets to a point where you have lost all confidence in the boat...you said lemon and maybe that's it. I wish you better luck!

Thanks for the responses. Glad to hear I am not the only one out there that thinks Regal is crap.

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

Last weekend I was out in my new Islander 221 with the wife and I couldn't start the boat after we shut it off and were drifting for a while. It seems the large nut on the back of the panel was loose and allowing the ignition switch to rotate so you couldn't use the switch.
I ended up taking a panel off and reaching in there and tightening the nut.
Always take a good tool kit, fuses, belts ect and have some knowledge about repairing the boat. It can save you time and your weekend.

He's right. When you have a boat you have to be ready, willing and able to fix little things constantly. It doesn't matter, old or new; that's just part of boating. If you are not ready, willing and able to fix stuff, then boating is not for you. Take up golf.

of course, the boat companies sell boating as if it were a worry free activity. Those who have been around boats know it's not and don't even bother to ask why. it's like how driving cars was in the 1940's.

I'm not saying I don't get frustrated, too, and I probably have the lowest expections. But you are starting by forcing something to float that by laws of nature should sink, making it go with a screw system turning through liquid, on a totally isolated independent power plant where one slightly bad connection on the smallest thing shuts it all down.

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

With all the "it's not a car it's a boat" and "unskilled labor" and "fluctuating demand" excuses I've heard it's no wonder the products are crap since so many of you seem ready to accept that. My BMW automobile goes 3 x faster gets much better fuel economy with less maintenance expense and has a longer life at half the purchase price. As long as we accept that crap and allow the excuses that's what they will produce. There is absolutely no reason from and engineering standpoint why quality and value can't be built into a boat the same way we expect it to be for a car. Stop excusing the manufacturers for building crap!

Re: brand new regal, 5 problems already

So just to update, the engine and GPS are doing fine. However the power tower electronics malfunctioned yesterday and it got stuck in the down position, rendering the boat useless. 2 hours from home, on a lake vacation with 10 people.

Long story short, we tore the boat apart and rewired the 2 units that control the up / down and got it to work.

Seriously. Made in America POS.
