... We just don't shut the highway down for 3 days when it happens ;)
Y'know, generally we don't either. I think it happened one other time since I've lived down here. Typically, we're thawed out by afternoon or the next day.

I still would rather live in the south rather than the North. 56 degrees today and no snow. 65 Sunday and no snow haha

I find it bewildering to see those long lines of vehicle stuck, when there is nothing to be stuck on but a bit of snow and ice.
I can't imagine what would happen if they got one of our -50 spells with some real snow.

At least we know better than to live where it never gets 50 below haha

Oh come on everyone, cut them some slack. Snow and ice is a rare occurrence in the south and people there would not be expected to know how to deal with it. It's no surprise is it?. I live in the heart of the snowbelt here in Ontario and I see stupid things happen here all the time. People just don't grasp the fact that they need to adjust their driving habits according to conditions. In the past week alone there have been at least two multi vehicle (40+) crashes in this area of the province. One region has literally been shut down for a week due to extreme weather. No school, all roads closed and even the plows and police were pulled off the roads at one point. This from an area that is used to dealing with extreme winter weather.

And then there was the time the mayor of Toronto called in the military to help cleanup after a bad winter storm. That call is still criticized today.

I got 26" of snow the other day and my whole area was blanketed with dozens of inches of snow, nobody called the National Guard, I spent 26 years in the Army as an officer, not once were any of my units ever called out for a snow storm. I understand that officials in GA made some mistakes, but so did the residents in that area, I live in Montana and even I knew that there was snow and ice predicted for Atlanta many hours before it happened, told my wife, watch, things are going to be a mess back east and it was.

People need to accept part of the responsibility for their actions is all I am saying. To add to that, I lived in Portland, OR for a while and the same thing happens there when it snows.

It would be interesting to see how smooth it would be up there with 5 million people added to the mix. My uncle had a lumber company in Missoula and a lake house on Flathead. Both seamed pretty sparsely populated in the 70's when I was there. Atlanta isn't Montana.

The people in the flyover states must have a lot of downtime with all this cold plus they are agitated with the propane prices!

I can deal with any weather they have there. I guess the reverse just isn't true.

Atlanta had a Tornado whizz through downtown. Has Saskatchewan ever had that happen? I would like to see how you handled that one haha

I used to think the same thing until I moved down here ;)

First thunderstorm we experienced down here made me wonder where the heck I moved to. Didn't even have tornados that night.

One year a Tornado went through nice Subdivisions in Atlanta. One man and his wife were laying in bed snoozing away. The next thing they knew they were being rained on because their roof was gone. Blown away by a Tornado. Tornado's don't only hit trailer parks haha Tennessee has a lot of Tornado's. Even an F-0 Tornado can be deadly if it knocks down a large tree on your home. F-0's are like a huge chainsaw. I have had a good many F-0 to F-3 hit 5 to 15 minutes from my home. Lots of Super Cell Thunderstorms that mimic Tornado's

Wow, sorry! What I started as a little light humored fun sure got elevated.
Most of it is okay Bubba - to be honest, some of the yahoos spin out in rain showers down here in Nashville. So, some of the ribbing is well deserved. But you really can't expect (as some comments seem to suggest) that we're equipped to handle snow and ice events like we've been having this year.

No real harm done.

Really from 1960 through 1998, we got a lot more snow and ice than we do now. People owned sleds and had snow chains. Then the climate changed or weather patterns changed. Just the past couple of years when it got colder and wetter

YES, Saskatchewan gets plenty of tornados. The Regina cyclone destroyed the city.
