Re: Boo hoo - We had a little snow and ice...

Our snow total for the past 36 hours are in ........... 30" The bad part is we are running out of room to put this stuff......... PLEASE SEND HEAT! The snow from the previous storm was over 14" on top of what we had and add in the new 30" .......... things are tight.

When I came to work this morning I saw the city using bucket loaders to remove some of the snow banks and haul it away in dump trailers.

Bob you people definitely have it much worse than we do. I like to see snow come and quickly go and that is what it does here most of the time. I have seen it hang around for a week max in the past. We don't have snow mobiles or many plows. So everything pretty much shuts down. Why beef up the snow fighting when it usually is a 2 day event? We had 2 days of snow and then it was 50 sunny degrees and much of it melted. Refreezing on the roads at night is a problem. You're more prepared for the long haul. Steep and/or heated roofs. Lots of plows for homes and businesses. Snow mobiles. Snow loaders and dump trucks. Snow chains. Snow tires. ETC You better be prepared if you are going to live in snow zones like Vermont etc

Actually I love the weather here. Right now I am at work...... there is a HUGE snow pile stacked outside my office window and around the parking lot perimeter. Yes, we do have a few more "unique" tools.......... and steep roofs.

Got 4 more inches last night, still snowing and supposed to till noon .... On top of the 15 we had yesterday, on top of the snow, ice, snow, and snow we already had ... Not quite as bad as Bob, but still having some snow storage problems ... Love it! Beautiful white blanket! My dog loves the snow, but is now having difficulty navigating in it!

Tough one back east, I'm glad we have boring weather here in WA., our winters are normally very mild even on the east side of the Cascade Mtns. A bit of cold, a few snow showers and it's spring time so it seems.

I love snow. I would love it even more if we were better prepared for it. I think I would love Vermont from the pictures I have seen. Just a beautiful state. Maybe you could post some picturesque scenery of it covered with snow when you get the time? That would be great

I could move back to full winter again with no problem. We were up in Wisconsin a few years ago in December and really enjoyed it. I miss cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

But I like Tennessee too much to leave it anytime soon.

We can cover ya' Musky: come on down. Last I looked at land prices up North it was in Minnesota - relative to that, land down here is cheap.

GA - Rural? That's a given!

kogs - For a handful of years we've talked about Ten. Basically, each time we drive thru on our way to 'Dega. Less than 5 years and the house is paid off, kid heads to college next fall and we've teased her that when she comes back to visit we may not be here... Don't hate winter, just not thrilled about the length....... This year has been brutal no matter how you slice it. However, it appears the east is worse as far as snow........ Lately anyway.......

Y'all c'mon. Start just about 40 minutes West of Nashville and work East: find your favorite spot and enjoy. I won't knock anyone else's home state - I still love Michigan, enjoy visiting Virginia when we go - but I've become a rock solid Tennessean. There's very little the state doesn't offer (IMHO) and the area around Nashville (and truly the whole state) is exceptionally economically solid. It's a great place to live.

We're working on fixing a few more tax issues for retirees right now. Hopefully be ready for ya' right on time.

Man, this weather has been brutal lately! 15 inches on Thursday, another 6 on Saturday, calling for 2-4 this afternoon, and Monday night into Tuesday the possibility of another 6+, but it could be a "wintery mix", meaning ice at the end. But then temps in the 50's by the end of the week, followed by cold and more snow! Guess we are getting close to spring and crazy temp swings.

But I love the snow!

Come on down to SC. Lots of beautiful farm land within minutes of the cities. Many large lakes and rivers. Now matter where you live, you are only 5 or 6 hours max from the Ocean and the Mountains. Many who come down here from the North, fall in love with Greenville or Charleston. If you can take the heat and humidity, then you will love it. Some Northerners just never get used to the Hot part of living in the South. They will gripe and grumble and that can be annoying. "I don't see how you people stand it!" Well if you would quit talking about it, then I wouldn't even think about it! haha

Charleston is beautiful. I'm over there once a year. But Charleston isn't just hot ... it's HUMID and hot ;)

I've been living down here for better'n 15 years and I still whine about the summer heat. July and August can be downright miserable at times.

When we go to 'Dega we go right thru Nashville. Been over to Chattanooga too and some Civil War fields in-between. Rolling hills are pretty nice over there......

As mentioned, finished plowing yesterday, got a quick 3" as soon as I finished. talking 7/8" from 2am - noon. Plow is going to sit until that comes thru tomorrow. We'll see how many calls I get today about the 3". maybe I wont answer the phone....

No 50s for us, talking a couple days in the 30s. 50s would make this a lot easier......:)

I love snow too, especially when it turns to running water in the spring.......

I've heard SC is really nice. As far as the heat, either you sit in the house with the furnace running non stop, or, you sit in the house with air going. I'll take the air...........

Living relatively close to the ocean would be a major plus....... 3hrs would be better yet........

My wife tele- commutes so she can move anywhere in the US. I can adapt too..... :)

If you want to be closer, up not too close to the saltwater, the whole Southeast is open. From Louisiana, east and up to North Carolina. Except Florida. You could live in the mountains of North GA or NC and still be about three hours to the coast.

Lookout Mountain and Chickamauga are both beautiful, with TONS of historic information. The Fuller Gun Collection at Chickamauga is fascinating. I live a couple of miles from the Stones River National Battlefield.

To be honest every year we wind up taking a day-trip we've never taken before. Generally we're less than 2 hours from the house and have found something we've never seen or done before and never would have guessed was so close to our place.

That's right. I'm within about 8 hours of the Gulf Coast from here, and I can be on the Great Lakes or the Atlantic Coast within a days drive. Asheville, Black Mountain or something like that would get you even closer to the Atlantic and Gulf wouldn't be too bad either. NC is gorgeous in the fall.

Kogs - You mentioned Lookout Mt. I have been trying to get wife on the incline for years. She threatens to leave me!:D
