nice progress there PM....... you are moving faster than a grinder to glasser.....

leave em in but they will still drip for awhile. i just left them in the same box they came in and turned the pumps into the middle with a disposable cup underneath them unless they are going to sit for a month or so before i use it again, but that never happened sooooooooo.................. but if it did i say same as WOG or a snack size ziplock and rubber band.

Great choice on the marine plywood. Can't go wrong with it. Good looking work on the transom. How did you like putting the epoxy on without any glass or having to grind it between coats. :D
Glad to hear your transom came out flat. Keep up the good work.

Re: 1988 Sea Nymph GLS - 17'

Thanks Guys; I am enjoying getting started on the put back...

Quick question since this thread is metal boat building for dummies: I've prepped the transom with two coats of epoxy with a light sanding in between coats... Now, I want to go ahead and slap some paint on it, since the epoxy (like vampires) hates the sun... Since this will come up during the rest of the build (deck, casting decks, etc...), do I need to prep the epoxy coated wood by sanding, etc.. before throwing on some primer and paint. Also, how long to does epoxy need to cure (set) before putting on the paint. (for what's its worth I did a search on the forum)... I think I am going to use porch paint to coat the transom unless you guys think Rusto would be better.

Thanks for carrying me through this.

72 hrs cure on the epoxy if the temps are 80 or higher. Double that if lower. If you can dent it with your fingernail then it ain't ready. Lightly scuff with 60 grit , Prime then Paint. Porch paint will work, check to see if it has UV protection too. But Hey...I'm a Glasser what do I know!!! and besides that
I'm just an...

Plenty of room in that hull for a center console dood! My Key West CC is 17'2" and I love it to death! You have more family friendly boats (ski and toon) at the parents right? Can't blame a guy for tryin right? :D Great progress my brutha....

Re: 1988 Sea Nymph GLS - 17 Foot

My old rig was quite similar to one you picked up. Overall, it was a pretty good rig and served me well for several years. I also had a 85hp Johnson on mine. It would get and go pretty good, usually topped out at about 38mph but I did get it to do 40 once.

I'm not sure if a prior owner had removed the full windshield from your GLS175 or not - or perhaps it is just a variation of this model.

Anyway... good luck on your project.

I like this windshield set up much better, NICE!

Been out of the loop for awhile but that's a great project you've got there. You're doing a great job so far. My Jupiter had a '73 Johnson 85 on it and it ran great and I could still get just about any part for it. CMC is your only real option for TnT though. I spent years looking for an OEM unit. Excellent work on the cleanup, transom and foam.

You are a foam shaping MASTER!!!!

Aww, shucks, man, I learned it from watching you  Seriously, thanks for the idea. It was a little tedious at the front where the hull shape was changing every few strips. Further aft, the hull shape is pretty uniform and not nearly as much "sizing" is required.

Plenty of room in that hull for a center console dood! My Key West CC is 17'2" and I love it to death! You have more family friendly boats (ski and toon) at the parents right? Can't blame a guy for tryin right? :D Great progress my brutha....

I'm not going to lie, your post actually gave me second thoughts... But, I'm over it... :p

As you know, those big windshields are not as prevalent down south, because the weather is so mild... but, I do like the "look" much better... Meridian and Gulf Shores, huh - another iboater in my area - fantastic... (spent some time in Orange Beach this summer - spent some time every summer growing up at Ono Island; wish Old River was still like it used to be -- Gulf Shores area is definitely in my blood!!!).

Thanks EZ, glad I finally listened to you (tinny with an outboard, right?). This project has been really enjoyable thus far...

Yes, 119 to be exact... About, 13 more and I'm done...

freaking sweet foam work!!!!!!

Thanks deke, I'm happy with the way it is turning out... I just used firm contractor's paper to trace the bulkhead and then cut it out and transferred it to the foam.... (oh and steady supply of fresh razor blades)...

Thanks guys... Have a good evening.
