Morning Gents.
I’m about to start putting the transom back together. I am wondering what you all have done with the transom cap install. Regarding these small nails. Should I nail these back into my newly epoxied transom creating intrusion holes. Is there an alternative with rivets?

I'm interested to see the suggestions here, as I'm at the same point in my project. The small perimeter nails/screws on my hull were steel, and corroded badly. Are yours stainless? They look in pretty decent shape.

I drilled pilot holes in the wood and used small stainless screws coated with 5200.
Nice.. I will probably go that direction. 👍 Thank you for the suggestion watermann.BTW get any work done on your islander?

I haven’t posted this because of the ugly workmanship but I got over that feeling. Here is my patchwork. The spot under the fuel fill hose was gaslogged and there was ALOT of corrosion there. The first attempt was with a beer can and jb weld, That was before I found this forum!

We have all done something questionable on our builds. As long as you are willing to learn it will be a fun ride.

That being said, I had a couple patches that I covered heavy in 5200 as well. It seems to get everywhere no matter how careful you are.

Not yet, it's still waiting it's turn. I did get a little fix with the SeaFarer project.

I backbuttered it entirely. Lesson learned!

I did a leak test this morning. Nothing leaking but the transom skin I’m still trying to get patched. 👍

Patched up the transom skin and installed my fish finder mount. Thanks classiccat. 👌
Need to finish other patch. Also installed some braces to tie my stringers to my ribs.

Progress I believe, I got the transom skin Sealed up, got the bolts below the waterline most the 1/4” bolts are in and sealed. So I build power lines, I have gotten so much aluminum out of the trash. 👍

Hey sorry I didn’t respond to your question. I didn’t notice it. I don’t think they were stainless but they weren’t rusted.

No worries, thanks for reply. Many of mine were rusted away from being submerged in wet transom. :-(
