Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild
OK guys, here is where I am at...
Dry fit on the 28 gal tank, all the fuel lines in place (yet to be clamped and gaskets around the alum openings), and pink foam between the ribs...
Couple of things you may notice...
For the fill line on the 33 gal I had to notch the hatch box. While the hose was plenty flexible the angles were awkward and it just wasn't working so I cut away the alum and slid it right in place. It's surprisingly strong still but when I bolt up the cabin wall it will be bomber.
You'll also see way up front there I shaped some foam board and basically made a bulk head under the support there. I glued everything in place to minimize squeaks. I'll paint it up so it's not such a shocker (pink) when somebody opens the hatch.
I love how the foam board fits in between the ribs there. It's actually sitting on the rib flange so water can work it's way down into the bilge too. Problem though - SQUEAKS! LOTS! LOUD TOO! It's the perfect tight fit under the stringer and under the tank. As I am walking around in the hull there the squeaks are just no good. I am certain that even filled in and deck on top I'll have lots o squeaks. Not acceptable.
My plan for now is to take the boards out, run a bunch of noodles through the table saw cutting them in half, and lay those down in between the ribs. Noodles will be quiet. Then I'll cut up all the boards like my buddy Dale did and lay those down on top kinda sorta. Laid loose like that squeaks shouldn't be a big deal.

Well, my progress will certainly slow way down (I know, already slow). My attention needs to turn to some family matters. In short, my mother and grandmother both have some very serious medical issues. Man am I tired of being in hospitals seeing the ones I care so much for, in such grave trouble.
I am still hopeful that I can make an 11 launch, but time will tell. If not that will be ok. Priorities.
