Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

A "must-have" for dual purpose trolling and pleasure craft

They will also make the rig very attractive to fishermen when you upgrade to the 26 footer and start this process all over again

Yah, I am trying my darndest to make this a dual purpose tub. Serious fishing craft and family fun boat you know. It's a tough balance to strike but I'll take a run at it;):D

Oh, the 26er you say. Want.

I now wish that I would have gone to the longest ones made for the sides. They would make for a better fishing arrangement for when the waves get big and you need to spread things out a little more.

Yah, those 4 footers will start at the stern for my downriggers and reach all the way forward to cover up the giant holes in my gunwale too! Bonus!

Man I'd be steaming mad if somebody ganked my downriggers! Steaming mad to see my rod fly into the water from a broken rod holder too!

Um yeah, didn't he promise pics like yesterday???:D

ohhhh that hurts. ok, I will try and post tonight. Man you guys are a tough group...wait, I am part of the group...nevermind..............

The mob is tight but quick to turn on it's own! You otta post up quick fsh, I know the crew is always looking for a good reason to get all riled up!

Speaking of photos...

I just logged on to ask you the same thing as I have the exact same box here. Lots of nice hose for little money huh? My deliverey was extra special 'cause another order also came in with new cleats, bow & stern light, fuel vent, & a bilge thru hull fitting. Later in the week we should see new gauges:D New parts help motivate!! Now that I am finally getting over some colds I'm ready to work!!

No joke, great fuel line, great service, fast ship, super price, happy boat builder!

I was making something out of nothing on the flexibility of that line. I should have no trouble making the turns I need.

Nice you got the extra booty in boxes too man, cool!

Thanks bg! Hey, all that ice will be liquid soon enough. I just hope I can get her in the water before it turns solid again.

No doubt the paint process is a tough one in these temps. Cheers man!

Hey J to bad you don't have another scrap ladder! cut one side off and buff it up and the rungs could almost or in your case be as many rod holders in a row as you want ????? could be mounted under the gunwhale through holes and the long rail could be the mounting point on the underside. Just a thought theat could work.

Personally I find it difficult to split the difference. I want the boat to do both, fish and cruise with family and friends. The Tracks thing would work for that, then you could take the holders off and store them when just cruising for fun with family, once they are there then they get in the way with boarding etc. Plus rod holders can get in the way when retrieving the child who just fell off the tube. My advice is the tracks, or mount them in such a way that they can be removed and stored, that's what I did.

Yah fanny, that would be a serious backyard shadetree boat building maneuver!

Teamster - you an UPS driver? Santa?

WST - Yah, tracks will be the way to go for this Islander. I should have stuck with my original thoughts on that. Now, to find the deal!:D

That's nothing! I'm looking really forward to driving and hour through 12-16 inches of snow to dig my boat out. I don't get many opportunities to see it, so I have make due with what I can!

Yah, I went looking for the hose clamps from the rigging I took out of the Islander and Baja, and I couldn't find any?? I took out three fuel tanks and was sure that I saved all the clamps, where in the heck did they go??! I should have a whole pile of em somewhere. I am betting I put them in an extra special safe place so as not to lose them.:facepalm:

Don't ya hate when you do stuff like that, sheesh. Oh well, I am sure to find them after I buy all new ones, install, and foam all around. Brother.

Keep looking for those old clamps because some of them old ones are high quality stainless steel. Most of the new ones are 95% stainless. The part you put the screwdriver to is silly steel and rusts. Use a magnet to test the quality of the clamps. It may not matter to you if the clamps have some rust so disregard if you wish. Did you check behind the dryer? That?s where half of my socks end up.

I spent two hours looking for six flush mount rod holders that I took off the Holiday. I put them in a safe place, my cooler, so i wouldn't loose them. I was actually sitting on the cooler looking for them at times...

Good to know that you fellas have the same struggles I do!

Well, I did some more looking and did end up finding some of them in a completely random place, might as well have been behind the dryer GLG:rolleyes:

I have made a little progress, I'll shoot up some photos when I get a sec.

Cheers
