    Testing for spark

Re: Testing for spark The adjustable ones are much better as you can assure that you are jumping a minimal gap for proper firing. For larger HP motors, the multi way testers are nice as you can visualize the difference in spark between cylinders simultaneously. They can also be used in...

    Water in the Cylinders

Re: Water in the Cylinders The misfire could be a number of things. Start with a spark test. The spark should jump the gap on the inline gauge a good 7/16 of an inch with a bright blue ZAP!! Ensure the plugs are torqued down to 18.5 to 20.5 ft/lbs. BTW, what is their condition?

    VRO elimination issue

Re: VRO elimination issue Disregard the fact that these carbs have been rebuilt, since it was likely done wrong. Follow Joes advice by removing the jets and thoroughally cleaning them. If you dont already have the special tool you will need to make one with a belt sander or the like. Pic...

    Carburetor on 1997 evinrude 50hp

Re: Carburetor on 1997 evinrude 50hp I am personally unfamiliar with that product, but in general, you may have issues with your carb. What is the condition of the plugs? Is the motor running poorly or giving you any issues? To test the ignition/spark use an inductive timing light or an...

40 HP Evinrude twin runs like doo-doo

Re: 40 HP Evinrude twin runs like doo-doo Here is a pic of the primer solenoids running postion, compliments of TD If it is in fact the opposite way, that would explain your 'flooding' since it allows fuel to flow through it to the crankcase area. This would be in the instance that the...

40 HP Evinrude twin runs like doo-doo

Re: 40 HP Evinrude twin runs like doo-doo The normal operating position is to have that red lever positioned over top of the solenoid and aimed at the other end of the solenoid. Look upon the primer solenoid as an electric choke. TD has a pic of this. What is the condition of the plug from...

    1973 Evinrude 65hp Water pump

Re: 1973 Evinrude 65hp Water pump Not a problem at all, especially with a manual. The hardest part (which is not hard at all) will be dropping the lower unit. It is a wise decision indeed to service the water pump. I would also reccomend flushing the cooling system while the lu is down, as...

    Another engne id question

Re: Another engne id question Welcome to iboats. You will need to locate a model number preferrably, Im assuming the stern bracket tag is removed? Look at the top rear of the motor for the welch plug, it is about the size of a quarter and will contain the model number.

93 johnson 115hp lower unit oil change

Re: 93 johnson 115hp lower unit oil change The recommended oil is 80-90 outboard gear oil, it has additives to protect the lower if you have water intrusion. I personally use BRP's synthetic brand. A pump like the following will make things much easier, not to mention cleaner. As you said...

    1978 75HP Johnson problems

Re: 1978 75HP Johnson problems What is the condition of the bendix and the teeth? Short of it being damaged, the condition you are referring to is usually due to a faulty battery or wiring/connection issues. A voltage drop test will verify this. Also forget the wd 40, use a light weight oil...
