I have a pull start tiller motor. The kill switch in the motor works fine. I would like to install a button switch so when I get to where I want to fish I don't have to pull the cord to kill the motor. What kind of switch would I get? I could mount it on motor housing.
Thanks,
Mary

a standard push button, all you are doing is shorting of the spark, just splice into the wires going to the lanyard switch.

You don't have to pull the pin at all. The pin is an emergency kill option on the kill switch. Just push the existing button in and it will kill the engine. You can do this with your thumb as your driving.

Wayne,
Thanks for that info. This is my first boat with outboard motor and I am still learning. I never knew one could push the whole button. One other thing I'm not sure about is securing the motor when I am trailering the boat. I tie the motor with a bungee cord so it doesn't move, but I have seen people with the motors tilted up, and even with a brace on the lower unit. Do you have to till the motor up?
I am learning as I go. Thanks!

What is reccomended is a "Transom Saver"

Transom savers don't work as well on motors without tilt and trim, but they do make something like that for your motor. However, my primary fishing boat has a 1988 Johnson 30 hp that must be trailered in the tilt position. I've always meant to devise a "transom saver" type device, but to be honest except for the time I hit some unforeseen railroad tracks the motor has never bounced. I'd recommend at least tying the lower unit down during transport even if I don't do it myself. It'll help reduce stress on your transom as well as your motor since the pin your tilted motor rests on is not intended for transport.
