I assume this is an oil injection (VRO) motor?? What kind of johnny oil are you using?? Type of plugs and plug gap? The recommended gap for normal use on a Champion QL77JC4 is .030, for trolling .040.

yeah its a vro but manuel and motor lit QL78YC at .030 but im up for any suggestion even heard of QL82YC but gotta ask on that one. as for the oil its the johnson blue.dealer said try the red but had none.some time ago and alot of the places in minnesota carry the blue so its easy to get.The motor is a looper if that matters or what it even means.
any help would be great thanks.

Full synthetic oil will smoke a bit less. Perform a decarb annually, along with a preventitive additive into every fuel fill up. Seafoam is a tried and tested marine additive. Check the FAQ for the procedure. Ensure the t stats are functioning properly, and you may want to widen the plug gap a bit as stated if you do heavy trolling.

Thanks i have used seafoam on about every thing mostly before storage
got some stuff today to decarb but it just snowed another 12 inches of snow yesterday so il get to it in aday or so and will defintly try the wider gap
and get synthetic oil. should i stick with the QL78YC plug that omc says or is there a option hotter or colder. plugs are always wet but like i said starts really good and runs pretty good.

Yup. I've got the same motor, and she's a smokey little beast. I got tired of hearing my fishing buddy playing Robert Duvall (I love the smell of outboard in the morning) and decided to do some experiments. The oil seems to make the biggest difference. Right now I'm using Evinrude/Johnson XD100 and it is much less smokey. Cuts down on the odor, too, which is important to my wife since the boat goes straight from the lake to our basement garage. The downside? It ain't cheap.
