    50ESL73R Fuel Pump Question

The better idea is to purchase OEM…..mount and go boating

    Battery disconnect while running engine

DTS (fly by wire) or not, the TPS sensor supplies the ECM with throttle position feedback from the throttle body. Not familiar with the control scheme of this particular motor, but most typically interrupt/disable the fuel delivery system (fuel pump) when they loose throttle position feedback...

benefits of side bunks..... are there really any?

Depends on boater's experience, how much deadrise the boat has and whether or not the bunks are set up to to match the profile of the hull. Having a deep V hull, my trailer is setup as a "drive on" with both target and support bunks. With this setup, the boat pretty much centers itself once you...

    Trailer Painting

Plating is an electrolytic deposition process. Typically only a couple 1/1000" of an inch thick at best. You want "Hot Dip" on a trailer.....hardware too, if at all possible

Getting old and losing friends sucks

I’ve been lucky….lost a couple in my twenties but nothing until last winter. Lost my dad and my best friend of 49 years 9 days apart, both from heart attacks

Very Odd Fuel/Power Issues with ‘20 60HP Mercury EFI.

The hesitation and lack of throttle could be the throttle position sensor. The extra fuel could be a MAP sensor or a bad fuel pressure module. I suspect your beep is a fuel restriction of some type, but you really need to get a code off the motor. You will go broke just throwing parts at an EFI.

    Trailer Rollers

Had TRP rollers on my last trailer before switching to bunks. 15+ years with a #4,800 boat sitting on them. Still looked like new

Question Spooling an old Senator 4/0 Reel with no Level Line.

People don’t realize how much mono actually stretches. Claimed to be upwards of 30% with some lines. My mono (#40) "way back" rods are 300 yds., 175 yds. and 150 yds. back from the boat. If you use the 10% figure, that is 30 yards of stretch that gets wound back on the spool under load. A lot...

Question Spooling an old Senator 4/0 Reel with no Level Line.

Would highly recommend using a “no-stretch” backer under the mono. 1. Minimizes corrosion of the spool. I spray my Dacron with oil before applying the top shot 2. The backer can substantially reduce the amount of line required to fill the spool (1/8” below the rim). 3. Prevents mono from...

Question Spooling an old Senator 4/0 Reel with no Level Line.

I fish 15 conventional reels of various sizes. Made a spool holder with adjustable tension that I screwed on the wall is the garage. Put the spool of line on the holder then threaded the line to the reel like normal. Use your “smart” thumb to level the line (on the spool) as you wind it on...

Too much wind and rain in my face

I don't head 40+ miles offshore to see the sights. I head out to catch.....lol The thrill of a lifetime is just one bite away.......the sound of a screaming reel has kept me heading out to the deep for over 50 years now. Still can't sleep the the night before in anticipation of the upcoming day

How to tell what transducer you have (Hook 5)

Maybe, maybe not. Nothing special about a downscan transducer. Still using a single piezo The only difference between a 5 and 7 pin is the speed sensor connection If you unit has 7 pins and supports 50 kHz , you could go with an Airmar P66-BL.

    Seatalk to NMEA2000

Seatalk is a proprietary communications protocol. NMEA 2000 is the industry standard. Message contents and PNG can be/are different. The ECI-100 acts as a translator between the two. Being a Raymarine MFD, one would assume Seatalk has more data available, but can only be confirmed by...

Kohler marine generator oil pressure fluctuations

Assume you’re using the proper weight oil for the temperature? Looks to be a direct drive oil. Pressure should not fluctuate unless the oil is contaminated. Apparently the cycle is repeatable which rules out contamination My money is on a bad diaphragm on your oil pressure sensor

    Why is my gas orange?

Sounds like the E10 is doing its deed. First couple of tanks after changing to E10 the Racor had a orange “varnish” ting to it. All clean and pretty by the 3rd tank full.

    Fuel flow gauge

Not really useful…the hull will tell you when you’re trimmed and running at the sweet spot. Fuel flow simply provides feedback on my range for the day FWIW: the single increase in fuel economy came from a prop change. Went from a SS 4 blade to a 3 blade prop. Gained 10% in efficiency How did...
