50ESL73R Fuel Pump Question

My fuel pump is bad. The sheet metal check valves (reed valves) are rusted through. Last year I bought one from amazon. It was supposed to match exactly, but it didn't There was a port on the back that I assumed was for a pressure tap when it was mounted flat to the engine. Mine isn't, it is mounted to the silencer and has a hose to the crankcase. The pump did have a hose barb too though, so I took it apart, drilled, tapped, and plugged the hole and tried it. It ran ok for one trip, then I started having trouble again. I put it up for the winter. This year I had a spark problem that I had to fix first, but even after I got the spark firing it wouldn't work. Turns out that amazon fuel pumps gaskets weren't fuel resistant and it filled the carbs with gasket bits.

Here's the question. I looked at pumps from several places, but they all look like the one from amazon. I would assume that they would have fuel resistant gaskets, but am I going to have to plug a hole on them?

I could probably make a gasket for the amazon pump. Would that be a better idea?

These pumps all look similar.----When 3 hose fittings are used , the hole on the back is NOT open to the diaphragm for the PRESSURE pulse.

Dingbat, I couldn't find the original oem anywhere. And all the available ones looked like the one I already had.

Racerone, I'll take your word for it. It's been a year. I sure thought it looked like it at the time, but I may have missed something.

???---438559 fuel pump.----Available all day long in almost every boat repair shop !!-----Not sure why these simple pumps are so mis-understood.----Not sure why folks are so confused.

Racerone, maybe I didn't say it very well, but that's the one I bought that is definitely different than the original. Open port on the back, and missing one of the mounting bolts. Given that, I was looking for the original number 358784. Now I am not an expert on these, so if you tell me that the 438559 is the pump for my motor is right, and I just need to get it from a more reputable source than amazon, that's the help I was looking for. I'll do it. I'd buy it from iboats, but it doesn't come up under a search. Is there a source you would recommend?

It only looked like an open port on the back I think.------But then again I do not use Amazon stuff.------I do not believe in parts from the ----hooflungdung-----manufacturers !----In Canada---evinrudeparts.ca-----or------Crowley Marine----- and others will find you the right stuff.-----No need for the third mounting screw at all.----Most of these simple pumps mount with just 2 screws !!

Racerone, update on this. The new OMC fuel pump looks identical to the amazon pump with the exception that there is no hole into the pump on the back. All three have a boss on the back, but it isn't open to the interior on the original or the new OMC. And I am going to assume that the new pump will have a gasket that is fuel resistant.

I wanted to post pictures, but I see that isn't working at the moment.
