What depth/fish finder do I want

This is no longer the case. Most mfg now have some sort of real time, forward looking sonar. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/marine/live-sonar/panoptix/

    Climate change and fishing

What’s a “red fish”?…lol We have “slots”, yearlings, Drum and Black Drum……lol Not sure how much I’d chalk it up to warm water. Not seeing anything I’ve not seen previously. Just a lot more publicity on social media. Things have always been are very cyclic. Seen populations shift up, down, in...

    Trolling motor disrupts sonar image

Aluminum boat? Auto pilot connected to Lowrance as well? Network cables? Not ideal to power an electric motor and sonar off a common battery. Especially if it’s “switching” power to minimize battery usage. Throws off large, electromagnetic pulses with each switch. Only get worst as motor wears...

    1978 Islander 22 I/O

I’m running 12x12 Bennetts, 2- scoop type water intakes, a side scan transducer, a paddle wheel speed sensor, and a conventional thru transducer on an 8’ beam boat. Clear pictures to WOT at ~40 mph

    Trolling motor disrupts sonar image

Not much to go on..... you didn't describe the type of interference nor under what conditions it happens. Where is the transducer mounted? Trolling motor.......12 or 24 VDC operation? Install the ferrite on power cable? Common ground connection between the two units? A bad or failing electric...

    I am not perfect.

Very much so…. we imbed a software “kill switch” in every piece of equipment we sell. Why… to protect ourselves from customers who use the equipment maliciously and/or those who fail to comply with the terms of the contract. Is it ethical to share your streaming service password with others...

Warrantees have consequences….lol All kinds of legal and financial ramifications associated with warranties clauses Imagine completing a Project but you don’t get your final payment until the warranty has expired, say in 24 months? How about the mandate that you must carry a warranty reserve...

    I am not perfect.

Agree..... You can't compare batteries using anecdotal evidence. To many factors influence the usable lifetime of a battery. My batteries: "Auto parts house" brand in both cars Motorcraft AGM in the Pickup Exide in Tractors Everstart DC in Boat and Golf cart Interstate U1 (lawn and garden) in...

Hydrive vs SeaStar Hydraulic Steering! Let's hear it!

I got "caught" if you want to call it that, on a front loader I bought (~1/2 the price) for my tractor. German company..........quality product, but come to find out no support in the U.S. The rubber boot on the hydraulics control dry rotted. Fortunately, I was able to identify the OEM then...

    Fuel Transducer Location?

If your fuel transducer is like mine (Garmin gfs-10) they must be installed between the fuel tank and the primary filter in a vertical fuel line. Most require a 30 micron fuel filter in front of them as well

No fuel in carb despite several attempts to crank

Remove the vent line from the hull and blow back through it. Sometimes fuel gets trapped in the “loop” blocking the vent. Cause I g the problem you describe

    Boat plumbing

Unless you have brass thru hulls or have changed them out in the last 8-10 years, my money is a thru hull that has cracked inside the throat Changed out the plastic for brass fittings when my boat was 6 years old. Half of them failed by close visual inspection. The other half I was able to...

Getting challenging to find somewhat common items?

Spent half my career as a Mechanical design Engineer. The support cycle of most parts is between 7-10 years. Once you get beyond that it becomes legacy support. Production and stock levels are demand driven. Looking at the PH454 specifically, the bulk of its usage was 2000-2007. That’s 17...
