Silverado 4X4 Z71 1500 with tow package. Pulls good, use 4X4 on wet ramps

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

99% of the time I pull my 07 Larson 180 with this:

I only paid $1,200 for the truck it's proven itself over the last 18 months to be no less than 100% reliable. In fact, just this past weekend I made a 400 mile round-trip pulling the boat to Pensacola and back. As ugly as the outside is, the interior has been totally re-done. Even the A/C works (and cold too)

My other car is a 2006 Crown Victoria P71. While it does have a trailer hitch and pulls the boat fine around town...the truck does most of the pulling.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Every grand marquis from like 1992.5 came with the 4.6L V8 engine until they ended the model line.

Even the old box bodies came with the 302 or 351 or something lol.

Perhaps I should make myself more clear. When I said I dont believe in v6, I was referring to the "ecoboost" engine on the new F150's, not my Grand Marquis. Of course I know my GM was v8, that's why I bought it.

Hope that clears things up for ya.

I think there are 3 or 4 of us pulling cottage boats occasionally with panthers...

I put a trans cooler and upgraded brakes on my '06
however my main tow rig is a Boston Gear 30:1 with a Leeson farm duty 1.5HP motor, and Remote-all remote

we tow our Sea Pro 180 DC with a 4-wheel drive 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 V8 and 6 speed automatic transmission .... the truck is rated to pull 9,700 lbs so towing our boat doesn't present it with much of a problem .... we seldom have to use 4-wheel drive to get the boat out of the water

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

To save my Ford Estate we have purchased a Land Rover Discovery 300 TDI circa 1995. 2.5 diesel, permanent 4WD with difflocks and low range. Cost peanuts to buy and insure, tows the boat like its not there (17ft fishing boat with Merc 50hp) and I don't care if it rusts to bits with sea water ingress. The best part is using the low range in reverse to get the trailer up my steep driveway. You just let the clutch out at idle and she creeps up the drive ticking over, no throttle required. Saves the clutch on my normal car which would cost the price we paid for the Land Rover, to replace!

My 17' SeaPro with an 88hp Johnson pushes our new 6cly Honda Pilot pretty well. It's also is at home behind my 8cly Dodge Dakota. The Honda pulls smoother, but the gas mileage is much worse.

Tow vehicle #1 (99% of the workload) Chevy 2500 Avalanche. 8.1 liter. 4.10 axles. Tow package, ram air and custome true dual exhaust. Current boat (20foot stingray) doesn't affect truck one bit. Even pulled a 36' car hauler with an F-250 plow truck and only marginally noticed she was back there. (except in the corners) Makes me giggle when people don't realize its a 2500.

Extreme duty rig (1% neccesary) 1997 F-350 Powerstroke with moded motor, 6" lift and 36" swampers. Can't find anything it won't tow and gets better mileage than the Avalanche.

I pull mine with an 08 Tundra. I love my truck and have never had any problems towing with it!

I just got rid of my 88 Toyota, loved that truck, in many ways wish I still had her but she lived her life very well. I had to send her to a junk yard as the salt had gotten to her some kinda bad.
