We pull the Mariah with a 2008 Ford Explorer AWD with the full tow package. It's the 4.6 V8 and we never have a problem.

I think it runs in the family, my grandfather only pulled with Fords all throughout my childhood. He'd double pull a Nuway 5th Wheel and the old Glasspar with a 71 Ford F350 460 4bbl.

Ahhh the good old days.

I pull our Charger 180V with our Grand Caravan Sport. Pulls it fine just keep it at 55-60mph. The trailer does have breaks on it so it stops like it was not even there.

I pull our 20' 1986 Invader V210 Cuddy (i think it weighs around 4,000lbs + the trailer) with my 2003 Chevy S10 ZR2 4x4. It's got a straight axle conversion, detroit locker in the rear, and huge lift so I have an 18" drop hitch. My 4 wheel is out so I have been pulling it out of the lake in 2 Low with no problems. No trailer brakes.

I pull my sig boat with the same truck (well mine, not his LOL). Mine is the 4X4 CC, LB. I also use it to tow our 30' TT with the Mule in the bed and you almost forget it's back there!

Beautiful truck, mine is the extended cab long bed.. classic body style just like yours, what a great truck, and that LBZ duramax is the best of em, and doesn't have the smog stuff related to the newer LMM diesels (in the newer bodystyle chevy's)...

Yes, the LBZ was THE Duramax to own. The newer body style with the LMM was just coming out when we bought ours. I'm a diesel mechanic by profession, and wanted no part of the DPF on my own vehicle. So we opted for the Classic with the LBZ. Oh, and it gets worse... Now they have the LML with the DPF and it uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid to reduce NoX. (although they have upped the HP & TQ ratings, software updates).

One thing to remember is that DEF (SCR), while I agree not optimum, has increased fuel efficiency a LOT. Allows 2000ish engine out NOx with 2010 tailpipe emissions. It has taken me a while, but I am a true believer now.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Just starting to tow a 1987 Sea Ray 210 Monaco on a Eagle Trailer with a 2003 Ford Explorer V6 with Class III tow package. Eagle trailer has surge brakes. Seems to pull fine. No noticeable hitch weight. Seems from all accounts on the top end of the limit on the Explorer since boat and trailer weighs in at 4250 lbs plus gear and fuel.. Will get a picture next time its hooked up, maybe this weekend. Let me know what you all think. Should I be looking for something larger to tow this boat?

This is exactly opposite of what I have experienced. How can DEF and superheating the exhaust with fuel increase efficiency? Of course it can't. The new engines make up for the mpg increase though other means.
I like clean diesels but using fuel to clean filters is something I don't want any part of.

The DEF injection reduces the need for regeneration (heating exhaust with fuel) by as much as 90%, thus the increase in MPG by not wasting fuel.

I pull with a 2012 Lincoln MkT. 3.5L-"EcoBoost"- All Wheel Drive.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

My 2008 Honda Odyssey tows a 19' Starcraft 191s to the local boat ramps. Take it nice and easy, look way ahead for trouble, and keep it at 65 in the right lane on the highway. Pulls the boat out of the water no problem on the nice new state ramps with deep grooves - again, nice and easy on the throttle, don't get those front tires loose. And, I keep a tow strap in the van just in case.
