Truly saddened by the news. There is a hole in the iboats community that will never be filled. May Don S rest in peace, and live forever in the hearts and memories of those he touched.

absolutely right QC!!

I would like to suggest one thing though, how about changing the section of "other" to "Don S. , The Oracle by the Sea" in his memory?

What incredibly sad news. All I can say is Thank You Don, for all the help and wisdom you have given me over the past two years. May you truly rest in peace.

Very shocked and saddened . . . The boating community has lost a great friend. I will always admire his dedication to helping others, most of them he had never met.

Don was a special person with a personality that could be easily misunderstood. He will be sorely missed here on the forums. His knowledge about boats, motors, engines, outdrives, and IT made him irreplaceable. It will take many to do what he did here. Yep, I will miss him.

Damn. I really hate to hear he is gone. He was my first contact here. He figured out why The forum was not working with my computer. Then he told me how to avoid most of the pop ups and spam. He showed a lot of restraint when I would post a half assed reply to a question I had not really read correctly. One post of his that sticks in my mind had a 4 word solution. The guy had a 17 foot true inboard and wanted to go much faster. Don's answer. " Get a different boat"

Re: The passing of Don S

A piece of Don trivia - Did you know that Don was a cat lover. Every conversation I had with him involved his cat and we used to laugh about it. We even discussed dropping off food to the local Humane Society to help the ones waiting adoption.

For those of you that would like to do something special - make a contribution to your local Humane Society to remember Don.

Small world, my little 4 year old niece adopter her first kitten from the pound today. Cats rule.....and dogs too, of course.

With 62,323 posts, he defiantly was devoted and committed to helping the diy crowd. I was wondering why so many posts lately on the mercruiser forums were going unanswered. He's was an invaluable resource with great diagnostic capabilities. Was always nice to get insight from someone directly in the industry.

I'm curious what his day job was? He obviously was a marine mechanic probably working on mercruiser? Also curious how old he was? 40's, 50's, 70's etc. Was he still working at a shop as a mechanic?

Someone correct me on any I may have wrong but he was a retired marine mechanic. I think he actually specialized more on Volvo. He was in his late 60's.

Re: The passing of Don S

I am sure sorry to hear this. Seems Don S and I had a few words recently about some stupid issue that really wasn't a big deal. I got irritated and jumped back causing a few disgruntle comment swaps between us both. :argue: Maybe he was not himself at that time and I certainly didn't know. I too am so sorry to hear this. Obvious he had a great following and I even thought a lot of him before our useless and senseless comment swaps. No one knows what really is going on in one's life at any time. My true heart-felt condolences go out to his family and friends...

RIP Don S. I would never have gotten my old boat running as well as it does without you. I feel like I personally owe you a few $$$. From my alternator to my wiring issues....God Speed Oracle

So sudden and hard to believe. A reminder that tomorrow is never guaranteed.

I always felt fortunate for his insight whenever he responded to one of my threads or posts. He may have been direct but he was right and there's much to be said for that.

Yes, Don was a Volvo tech in Alaska and worked closely with the local fishing fleet. Halibut charters I believe. He was probably the strongest Volvo tech in the country. He moved to the Seattle area a few years ago, and was initially semi-retired and then recently fully retired. He was also more knowledgeable than most on all of the other stuff: OB's Sailing, I/Bs, Cruising, he even lived aboard for a while if I recall correctly.
