Oh no!
I've been absent a few weeks, and come back to this news! Don has responded to my countless dumb questions with responses that went beyond the yes/no, often attaching pics to clarify (and sometimes telling me to get my head on straight!). But, he ALWAYS helped. I'm sorry to hear this. Godspeed, my friend.

+2. Guilty many times.
I noticed that he wasn't posting last week. Then, last night I saw the news of Don's passing. We all will miss his direct and informative posts, and the clear logic of his thinking. He was always there and he always knew the best approach to solve a given issue. Don will be badly missed.
We all have a lot to be thankful for in his legacy. I didn't know him personally, but I feel as if I lost a friend.
For those of you who did know and love him, I feel your pain and wish you every comfort in this difficult time.

I noticed I havent seen him post lately, now I know why. I sure will miss him like everyone else. a lot of times I just looked for things he was posting on just to read his comments. I have learned a great deal from him, and he wasnt even helping me. I could tell the knowledge that he had just from his posts, he was very precise in everything he did here. And the hours he spent researching, posting pictures and helping people that he would never meet say so much about him. He will be missed.

It is becoming clear to most of us that the iboats community, along with a few other forums, were Don's primary family.
It's both sad and humbling. Sad that there is no indication of family ties in the online obituary, humbling that we can, as a community of people with a shared interest, fill that role, if just a little.

Over the long winter nights, I learned Don was extremely passionate 'bout his Wood workin',...

A couple of years ago, I redid an ole antique oak kitchen table my Mom had used in her classroom for 20-odd years,...
I remember it Years ago, with a reddish formica top,...
It had been cut down 6" for the little kiddies, 'n bouced 'round my shop for several years after Mom passed away,...
To gain shop space, I pulled it out, sanded it all down, 'n Epoxied the whole darn thing into a table top,...
the leaf was missin', 'n the wooden sliders shaky at best anyways,...
After epoxyin' the top enough to sink a penny, 'n be sanded Flat,...
I was kinda Proud of the out-come,...
Very few to no bubbles,...

When I told Don of my adventure into woodworkin', 'n showed him some pictures,...
You'd thought the world ended,...
How could I crucify a beautiful piece of Wood like that,...

He finally relented ridin' my butt 'bout it, after I expained is was oak Plywood, a production table,....
probably from the 1st 1/2 of the last century,....

Ayuh,.... Very Don,.......

Not sure what Copd is?

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Must have been suffering from it for a while - we never knew. I keep coming back to this thread - it is so sad. I hope he's checking in to see how much he meant to us, and how much he's missed :(

COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. My oldest son is an MD but that is not how I know about it. Father in law has it, on oxygen all the time, bordering on dementia. Has been near death twice this year from complications like Pneumonia.

I'm beginning to see why Don had his 3AM Photoshop sessions when having trouble sleeping. Not so long ago he posted a cat (I think, can't find) he drew from scratch. Don drew the individual hairs. Had to be painstaking.

Re: The passing of Don S

Thought about posting a few times over the last month how well my boat was running. He basically deserved the credit but I figured he'd probably tell me to go away and come back with a problem. Wow, he will be missed - be Blessed Don S.
