Re: The passing of Don S

Its seems the true measure of a person is how many lives they touched and aided though direct interaction. Everyone's dealing with Don S holds its own personal meaning. Far and above the simple thread based dialog generated to solve the original "I need Help" issued that connected Don to the poster. Its been said "Count your life in friends not years" Don S has far more than most of us will ever count. And will continue to garner them long into the future with the wisdom and information he left behind. Again, may he rest in peace.

Re: The passing of Don S

I have been away for a little while, and just got notified from a friend about this. It is really hard to say goodbye to such a great man and contributor to this forum. I know he helped me a TON when I got my first boat and had engine issues. He did not make me feel stupid, and explained everything in detail.

God Speed Don!

I had an idea it was something along those lines.

In a thread someone started about quitting smoking, Don mentioned he was up to 4 packs of smokes a day  when he quit back in the early 90's. Though that's 20+ years ago, I could imagine that could have a lasting effect on ones health.

Don.... RIP.

Thank you for all of your help and answers to my boating questions. Devoting your time to this site and helping the people on this forum shows a lot about your character. I wish I would have had the chance to meet you in person and buy you a beer, soda etc.

Wow! I'm so saddened. I've never meet Don, but he was such a great help on the forum. Many future boat owners don't know how much they'll miss him too. Always quick to respond to a question with clear and concise troubleshooting.

What a truly wonderful person to donate his time to help us with our boat problems.

I still remember the first time I posted on IBoats, asking help with a wiring problem. That was the first time I was helped by Don, and I will always remember him.

I probably missed it somewhere but how did Don pass? What was the cause?

If one was to ask not how he died, but how he lived, one only need see this thread... Greatly missed, and NEVER replaced...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Must have been suffering from it for a while - we never knew. I keep coming back to this thread - it is so sad. I hope he's checking in to see how much he meant to us, and how much he's missed :(

Me too buddy, me too....

Haven't been on the forum in a while. WOW! Such sad news to hear! He was so helpful to me in getting my boat running and helping me understand the boat! Tremendous loss to this forum! My prayers go out to his family and friends. R.I.P. Don S

I am so sorry. Prayers to his family. I'm not religious, nor am I Christian but Isiah 41:9 says it better that I can.

I used to work with Don.

He was difficult, demanding, particular, without compromise, organized, short tempered, dependable, Detail oriented, direct, and with a very limited appetite for bull****.
My job was to take in, and assign jobs, get the correct parts, and deliver the boat on time, when promised. His work ethic kept me busy, and his standards kept me on my toes.

Grays Harbor bar is the worst commercially navigable bar on the west coast. (Willipa is worse, but is not considered commercially navigable.) I will say without a moment of hesitation, that when crossing that waterway, and having green water shipping over the bow, and your are gripping the wheel harder than you need to, knowing that if your engine should even hiccup you would be in major trouble...
You wanted Don to be the person who last worked on it.
Good man. Good friend!

To all of you who have wished well to his family and friends.
YOU are his family and friends, except for his kitty, who now resides with me.

Don, thank you for helping all of us. I always felt so special if you responded to any of my threads. It was like, wow I'm getting special attention from Don S.! I didn't know a thing about boats or drives but I was completely confident that I could come here and look at the info you provided and get the job done.

Some of you say that there was a medical cause to Don's passing. I disagree. I'm leaning towards this explanation: the great big boat in the sky had milky oil and busted engine mount. God needed the best resource to walk him through realignment and troubleshooting. I guess after 62K+ posts down here, its his turn up there.

Thanks for being there for us Don! We'll greatly miss you, but I promise we'll check your stickies before posting a question!

Thank you for you personal insight into a good man. Don was unique and I do miss seeing his Oracle of the Sea posts. I know you're taking good care of his kitty.

Take good care of that kitty. Don would appreciate that since he was so fond of it. Every phone conversation I had with Don usually involved the kitty in the background demanding attention. Thank you.
