Re: Start of My Project. 1991 Starcraft Islander
Well another day has come and gone, and the mild progress i was making came to a screeching halt today.
I did get the wood for the transom completely sealed, so that is ready to go, I figured i'd clean up the mess that was the Aluminum prior to setting in the wood.
Remember it looked like this.
After closer inspection today, there was significant corrosion and pitting. I suppose hind sight is always 20/20 i never should have bought this piece of crap. I think i'll write a post on how not to buy a boat. That would involve not taking your father who is a total waste, but alas i digress.
the pits
So instead of getting the wood back into place and the boat back to the gentleman who removed the engine, i was left to clean and prime the inside.
Then after a trip to HD to get gear. I finally got the POR 15 on it.
Unfortunately for me the rain is coming to night so I was hurrying to get this done.
I have it as far back in my garage as i can with a space heater and flood lights in it, hoping that the temp will be sufficient for the POR 15 to cure.
Tomorrow i'm on the road so probably won't get much done. My next step is to fill all the pits with jb-weld, and make some patches for the billion holes the guy who had it before me put in the transom with non stainless hardware.
Yippee
