Yah, what EZ said! If it clogs op the holes just unclog them! I think it would be better anyway to have that seam between your drain and deck sealed up anyway.

Cheers Man!

Re: Start of My Project. 1991 Starcraft Islander

Kinda fried. I did get some of the floors a first coat of epoxy. I got the gas tank fit, and now just need it to warm up a tad to gluvit the rivets.

I'm still at a loss for what to do with floatation.... No i'm not going to or desire a bunch of posts on the various merits of various types of floatation.

No matter what type i think i'll go with, i just don't think there is enough room to get the requisite volume to float her given a swamping. (maybe another bilge pump and a epirb too???)

Anyway, I need to get the floor and seats mocked up, and the transom cover done, so that i can get that damn cockpit cover done.

Regarding the transom cover, i did get all the holes filled, and that is ready to be replaced along with a full length piece of wood under it, so progress slow and steady at the moment.

Not much in the way of pictures, but progress is being made.

  • All the holes in the transom have been filled with Marine Tex.
  • All the Bolts have been sealed with 5200
  • The Live Well pump has been installed
  • The floor coated with Gluvit
  • Front windows resealed with 5200

Of course all of the transom work now requires it to be painted. Lovely more to do.

tomorrow:

  • Mount and plumb the Fuel Tank
  • Fill with flotation
  • Install the floor

I did run into a huge set back this week, as all of the epoxy i had went bad. 2.5 gallons ruined. The hardener caked all up, and turned milky white. So i'm hoping my new stuff gets here thursday.

Pictures will be forth coming

and some flotation thrown in for good measure

I did start to put the floor in today as well, however the thunderstorms blew in and halted my progress.

Tomorrow:

  • Floor
  • Paint transom
  • install swim platform
  • install kicker mount
  • transom top

We will see how far we get. My only other issue has been that the fuel line i thought i had was wrong, so i am waiting for new fill and vent line to be delivered. I'm hoping that will be here tomorrow so that i can button up the floor.

we shall see

I got my vent line from wholesale marine, and the actual fill from jamestown distributors.

Re: Start of My Project. 1991 Starcraft Islander

No pictures today,

But i've had a bang up week, almost to where i wanted to be.. But still a crap load to do.

Floor is installed!! Which means the fuel tank, the livewell, and all the plumbing too.

Also got the transom cap on.

I then got the wild idea to see if i could get it to start. I figured i'd better test the fuel lines and be sure there were no leaks, so after adding a few gallons, and slapping in the battery, she breathed life.

Not the smoothest today, but it does need a tune up and a carb job, so once those are done, she ought to be smooth as silk.

tomorrow i mock up the pedestal and the seats, then take her over for her cockpit cover, while i'm away on business.

I may get her in the water by august at this rate!!

Nice progress. We'll fish this summer yet. I may pull some all nighters on the water this summer as well.

I'll fish till I'm tired, sleep for a couple of hours, get up and do it again. I just hate all the launching :)

Re: Start of My Project. 1991 Starcraft Islander

Wow has time flown by.

I've spent most of the time since my last post on an airplane seeing the world for work vs. in the back of my boat finishing it. However that said she is 95% done, and had her sea trials yesterday.

It was a tad windy and the there was some chop on the water, but the ole beast did manage a paltry 37mph. So i thought that was acceptable. I still need to put a tach in it, it feels like with the proper prop i could get a bit more out of her.

In any event here are some pics of the work over the past couple of months.

Floor and seats mocked up

Seats (which after the first ride are awesome!!)

IMG_0449.jpg

Cabin decking. Looks okay with paint and cushions - more pics on that this weekend

Engine box with seats mocked up

Painted foor with Livewell

On the water.

This weekend i plan on putting on the kicker, the rear transom trim piece and rear seats and a cheap fish finder. Then use the heck out of it.

More pictures to come

Congrats Tim.

Just so everyone knows....myself and another friend of Tim's were supposed to be on the maiden voyage which was to occur a couple Saturday's ago. We busted as_ all day in the 100 degree heat to get it ready. Then we decided to fire it up. FAIL. Stupid I/O's :p
