Re: sold a boat and it busted!

I too am a lurker. Congrats. I am sure glad that it went the right way. The problem is this is going to happen again,.... how will it turn out next time? What can we do as boaters to keep this from happening again? Can we set up a thread for specific instruction to selling a watercraft? Everyone here knows from the story that you were not in the wrong. But the judges and lawyers can go either way. Again congratulations CB.

Bump!

I tend to buy a lot more than I sell. However, I would think that setting up a checklist that the buyer fills in and signs would be a good way to prevent this. Hull condition, floor condition, outdrive performance on test drive, cylinder PSI check, etc...

Re: sold a boat and it busted!

Wow 50,000 hits -----anyway-----

I just bought a boat 3 weeks ago and the owner said that everything worked. We started it up with ear muffs and sounded good. I did not have a clue about boats, 1st one. The price was right.....a Glastron 15 ft with a Force 85hp motor and the boat was in good shape. Paid $1000.00 for it.

Well I decided to change the plugs. Pulled the plugs and noticed the middle plug was way too clean ....hmmmm? Well, to make a long story short the CDM ignition was no good and not firing the 2nd cylinder .......paid 200.00 for a new one.
Then just last week I moved the engine all the way up position, the phone rang and I went inside to answer it.......10 min later came back out and the motor was all the way down:eek:.........Make a long story short the power tilt/trim valve body is shot:mad: still looking for on of those, cost will be about $200.00. Well I decided to take it out in the lake and try my luck. I trolled out past the no wake signs and started to give it more throttle, CRACK....SNAP .....what the? Tried to put it neutral, no luck!!! full throttle
and my brain became mush....I turned the engine off and came to a fast stop.
I looked at my wife and said......OH SHI@.... Make a long story short......The remote control broke, a piece of plastic snapped in half. Had to get towed to the boat landing. Waiting for new one to come in the mail, another 100.00 gone. 3 weeks with the boat , each week a new part and only 5 minutes in the lake:eek:

Now the good news....yes, there is good news......The guy who sold it to me is my neighbor:) pay back

I know, learning lesson here. Next boat purchase will be a lot more hands on stuff.

Okay, if that thread is still around, someone HAS to post a link to it. I'm too new to have seen it.

What am I missing? Is this an inside joke?

Someone tell us what the general topic of the thread was!!!!!

I'm dying here!

OK, I'll let you in. Your thread is close competition to a thread that used to run in DC called the H.O.T.D. (Hottie Of The Day) in which some of the most beautiful pictures that exist were posted. However, it was a full-time job for the mods as some people wouldn't respect the line in the sand and would post "revealing" pics. It sort of turned into a game (how revealing). A pic that was too revealing would get poofed by the mods, but if you checked it very often, you could catch a glimpse before they poofed it. This gave the thread a very high view count. And people would argue about their pic getting poofed for being see-through while so-and-so's pic showed half a nip, etc.. Eventually, the mods tired of the game (understandably) and poofed the whole thread.

It was a sad day for all of us. I think everyone who hung out in DC can remember exactly where they were when the H.O.T.D. got poofed. Recovery brought all of us together, though, as we helped each other through it,... taking it one day at a time...to carry on...;)
