Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks Wood ! The ply template is a little larger than the seat backing. The foam is about 1/4 to 3/8 larger than the wood backing. My concern was keeping the cut somewhat square with as thick as the foam is. Did you put the 1/2" poly backing over the whole seat or just on the back of the wood backing ?
I covered the entire top and sides of the foam with the 1/2" Rayon Batting, not the bottom. I then Sprayed it with 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive and Glued the Plastic on it. Kinda stretched the plastic over it and smoothed it all out and rounded it over the edges. Made the Vinyl fit really well.

enjoyed watching you cut up that foam like a thanksgiving turkey.... Also, the panel for the gunnels turned out awesome... I like the little punch of black color... Keep trucking along... You are getting close.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Got yet another coat of green paint on . When I started spraying ,well mixing paint , it was 76 deg,s by the time I had the gun cleaned out it was 80 deg,s .. I have a small window AC unit in the shop that I cool the closed part with so last night I stapled my tarps good over the carport openings and let the ac run all night . Left the door open and stuck my fan pointing into the carport area..
The paint turned out ok . I guess if I want a perfect paint job I'll have to hire a professional. LOL !!
I think if I want to do another big paint project I,m gunna have to step up my painting equipment . I would like something a little better than the H/F special ..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

SP, Have you shot any paint with that touch up gun yet. It has a 1.0 or 1.2 tip. That really puts out a fine fan and helps cut down on the orange peel. As an experiment, next time mix up some paint using this formula, 1/2 cup paint 2 tablespoons acetone 1/3 cup of Mineral Spirits. Add more MS if needed to get good flow with the gun. The MS will allow the paint to flow and settle a bit more and the fine mist won't peel as much. If that works, you can buy a 1.2mm tip for your gun and get lot's better results next time. But... a LOT of your issues are coming from the temps. Not the gun or your skills. Painting when it's hot and humid is VERY DIFFICULT!! VERY!!!!! Takes a lot of "Fussing" with the mix to get it perfect and even then it's hard cuz temps fluctuate so quickly. When you buffe her out in a month or so, she'll be Bee-U-Tee-Ful so don't sweat it. Ya Dun Rite Good Dude!!!!!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks for the encouragement Wood ! Ya just get aggravated when do all the cover up sanding and prep just to shoot and it comes out just not quite right LOL ! I would be pulling my hair out but I aint got much left up there . I shot it this morning and used the big gun with the 1,4 tip . 2 cups to 1- 1/4 cup rusto reducer . It did peel a little mostly on the bow but not near what I had before. Tomorrow morning I'm gunna shoot the stripes with the small gun and the 1,0 tip and see how it goes. I still have not found a 1.2 tip that will fit the gun . Ive looked at alot of paint stores in town and a little on the internet ..

OK I have made a cardboard template of the jump seat. The angle on the sides are a little different so it looks a little funny. I want the backrest to extend up above the step pad area a little . Do you think it is to tall ? I think I will install one of Woods white step pads behind the backrest in line with the stripe on the seats. Any thoughts ?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Got nuthen done on the boat today cuss my pool pump took a carp on me .. Tried taking the motor off and rung all 4 thin bolts off !
If it ain,t one thing it,s ten !!

Yep Wood I need to swing by moms house where the machine is and start knocking the dust off. Hopefully it's working ok..
BTW I saw that you used piping on the white to blue insert on your seats. Is that a necessary thing ? I asked mom about if it,s needed and she said that it maybe uncomfortable on your back. I wish I could get away with no piping but would imagine that would take a special kind of stitch ..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks for the link Wood I'm thinking the seem tape might be a good idea.Hopefully I can make the seams as well as the guy on the video ,

Decker I think I,m gunna bid on a new pump this weekend on evilbay . May get lucky..

Well did a little to the seats this afternoon. I thought it might be a good idea to glue some strips of foam on the wood edges.
DSC00741.jpg

Then as a test run I glued the 1/2 " batton over the whole seat.
DSC00742.jpg

After that I had a roll of plastic laying around so I wrapped it up like a ham sammich ..
DSC00743.jpg

I kinda hurried thru this one . On the rest I'll try and do a little neater job..
