Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

May be a moot point given the most recent post, but if you go spray adhesive, you have to splurge for the high-end loctite spray that is foam compatible. I know from personal experience that if it doesn't say foam compatible on the can, it will eat your foam -- quickly!
This is absolutely true, sir...if I did go that route, my other choices are 3M's Spray Adhesive #77 or Foam Fast #74...there are others, but these are available locally and at wholesale prices through my shop supplier...;)

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Alrighty then...Something to post about...
Knew the week was gonna end slow, soooo...I started hauling supplies and the boat over to the shop on Thursday...
Come Friday morning, just had a couple of cars to finish up and with nothing else pending, I started digging into the "Bassassin"
Even with all the planning and drawings and mock-ups and thinking, I still didn't get as far as I thought I would, but I am very pleased with the progress that took place over the next 3 days...
I kept consoling myself that even though I know what I want to end up with, getting there is like playing chess...you have to plan every move carefully or you can end up in checkmate...
I was able to get both of the rod locker dividers/bulkheads built...I also made quite a few cardboard templates and mock-ups {like my Group 27 Battery} to help with the planning...

Here is the template for the rod tip holder/bulkhead...

In this pic you can see the rod tip bulkhead cut out of cardboard and a couple of PVC pipes installed to check the fit.
Eventually I hope to have room for up to 8 rods, with at least 4 of them being 7 footers...

Here you can see the tackle storage/step and the foot rest areas mocked up...
You notice the daylight underneath them, that is on purpose, so that any water that gets on the sole will run all the way back to the bilge...and yes, I sat at the helm for a few and made boat noises...

Rod Locker bulkheads, one side each, skinned...

Foam cut out...

They have since been skinned on both sides.
I used TBIII to glue the basic frame work together and used some decking screws, pre-drilled, through the top and bottom plates, then used as clamps to hols them together while the TBIII dried.
I used 2 each 1/2" layers of the rigid foam, free floated, between each of the studs.
I used PL glue to bond the skins on either side.

Continued...

Carrying on...

I finally decided that this was as good a time as any to find out if a 3 year old, unopened tube of 5200 was still good...
Hallelujah! It was, so I went to town permanently installing the two stern eyes, the winch eye, the bilge drain, the aerator pump housing, and most of the Starboard pieces on the fuel tank...

And some more pics of the weekends progress...

Stern eyes from the outside...

The Starboard pieces on the fuel tank...

A close up...

I am pretty well whipped and I still have to take a few more pics of the other details I got done, but it is time for a shower, a few Ice Cold Premium Adult Beverages, a nice stogie and some awesome homemade spaghetti...

Till next time, I hope everyone has had a great weekend...:D

Hey Gus, that is great looking and out standing work..
Don't beat yourself up to bad on the amount of work you did.. IMHO you did excellent..
I always plan and think about how much I can get done and I never reach my goals.. But my excuse is I'm old and slow.. But we all do more in our minds than we actually can do in reality.

I don't care if I have to call in sick and the fish ain't bitin!

Great looking progress & mockups.

Thanks SP,
I am definitely leaning towards a dual console set up...gives me a good high and dry place to store valuables in a glove box with the added possibility of a tunes box buried in there for entertainment when the fish ain't biting...
If the fish do start jumping in for their last ride, I might have to change the name to the "Bassassin Hearse"

Progress looks awesome! Great work!
Thank you, Se?or

Thanks Deck, yeah it's true, in my mind I move at the speed of light but my body refuses to go past turtle speed...

As always, a big thank you to all who read along and send kudos my way, it really helps the motivation factor...
Have an awesome week, y'all!

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Hey Gus, just been following along here, reading and taking notes for my winter project. Thought I would give you some bad news. My understanding is that Costa Cruises is dragging the Costa Concordia your way and they want it finished in a month. It is only 300 yards long and 112,000 metric tons. I recommended you for the job. Serously, boat is looking great...really looking forward to you getting it wet.

Thanks for dropping in, Dan...
I really appreciate the reference...let me make a little room in my dry dock and I'll be happy to hook up Costa Cruises...heck I might be able to knock it out in a couple of weeks...;)

Thanks zool, that means a lot from someone who is doing some serious workmanship and is executing his rebuild with incredible craftsmanship.

This is just a quick post to add a couple more pics that I was too beat up on Sunday to get uploaded...

Here are both of the rod locker bulkies, trimmed of excess PL splooge...

And some reference lines I laid out to get an idea of what goes where under the stern casting deck...
Sorry for the poor quality, I shot this just before leaving for work and the transition of the camera from nice cool indoor A/C to a refreshing 87?/80% Humidity, at 7:30 AM, caused it to get all misty eyed...

Never have gotten a pic of the winch eye all 5200'd, but we all know it is done, right...?;)

A little more progress coming this weekend...hurry up Friday!

Happy Humpday, gang!:D
