Yeah, those cleat backers look strong enough to moor your boat in a south florida hurricane!

Good work... (and way to plan ahead)! Also, I'm sure that extra glass will not only cover up holes but also add some strength to the cap since I seem to recall you gave it a pretty good haircut awhile back to accommodate your new mods!

Most excellent being done in south florida there!

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

And now I am absolutely spent...

The cap, just before flipiin and puttin back on the hull...

Just got done loading up all my carp, clean up my work zone, haul everything home home and unload...Phew!

Yep, Troop...I couldn't very well leave glitter dust on everything, everywhere...so after I got all my stuff packed away, I gave everything a good wash down, including 4 heavily dusted cars...

This is what the load looks like...almost feels like I am towing a complete boat...

The final trash tally...3/4's of a 55 gallon drum full of boat waste...

And this one is just gratuitous boat paraphernalia...

Already in full on relax and refresh mode...hope y'all have had an awesome weekend...I am goin to set my butt in the recliner, soak up some suds, watch some NASCAR, pig out on some shrimp scampi and shortly thereafter, pass out!

Looking good!

Ya better use grade 8 bolts for the cap & rubrail fasteners

Don't want the cap going w/ the cleat & super-duper backer during the next Hurry-cane: Hurricane Andrea, if I'm not mistaken....

Great to have a really good space to work in, even w/ the loading, hauling & cleanup....

Another busy, busy day! I can't imagine having to pack it all up and travel after every session. It's bad enough having to put away (most of) my tools each time.

Looking good!

Thanks Guys!

Quickie update...

Started a little planning ahead...

Plumbing for the future live well and wash down...this is just a mock up for now, just to get an idea...the actual routing of the pipes will probably change as the interior takes shape...

And, Oh Yeah!...pics of the Rod Locker Bulkies CSM'd on both sides...

Happy Tuesday!

Live well/wash down ? You mean you are going to install like a hose to draw water from the lake to hose down deck or whatever ?
Fancy smanshee ! Gunna have room for a kitchen sink and maybe a wet bar .. :D

You know me too well...
I imagine it will be a somewhat gentle flow of water since its only a 500 GPH pump...
Unless I can get the 3700GPH pump I have my eye on...[that's like 1 gallon per second of flow:eek:]...
I am actually thinking about getting one of those super compact, expanding hoses...As Seen On TV!
It will mostly be used for a quick wash down or if I decide to clean and grill a fresh catch on board... :fish2::hungry:

The kitchen sink and wet bar are options still revolving in the hamster cage...;)

Hey GT,

Rod Locker Bulkies look great. Curious as to where the "Hoover" is going in the boat? :)

Seriously, I have been through the whole thread and just want to say, you are turly a craftsman. I know most of us don't start out as such, but some - not all - are able to achieve the level of expertise that you have displayed through out the project. Great work, hopefully I can acheive 75% or what you have when I start mine.

Now that I have flattered and buttered you up.....I have read the whole thread once and because I seem to like things that hurt (being poked with sticks, tied up and waterboarded, etc., I have started reading it again. Somewhere in the not to distant future in a long time form now that happened pages before - you were discussing putting down the stringers. You mentioned that you had PB the first sections near the transom, and then later finished PB the rest of the stringers.

Did you not "bed" the stringers in PB completely? Or have I misread or misinterpeted what you were posting. It even looked in the photos as if there were areas of the stringers that were "tabbed" with PB, and then later photos showed that they were completely filled with PB prior to you tabbing with the 1708.

Thanks for the assist.

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks for the kind words, Daniel...they really are making my noggin swell...it almost doesn't fit through the door...

Yes you are absolutely correct...
I did PB and tab spots in...basically the method to the madness was to hold everything in place at the time and to prevent running out of resin...
I was also at a point, if I remember correctly, that I wanted to get the hull flipped, prepped and painted...
So basically I did some spot PB-ing and tabbing to hold the shape of the hull, then after I got the hull painted and flipped back over, I finished installing the the stringers and the rest of the bedding and tabbing...
Although, to be totally honest with you, it has all become a kind of fuzzy memory at this point and I couldn't guarantee that my recall is very good...

Happy Friday!
Weekend looks busy with non-boat related stuff, but if I can squeeze something in, you can bet I will...:D

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks for the reply Gus, That is what I thought you had done, I was at first a little concerned with how strong it would be, but with all the 1708 you have laid on the hull, I believe it is bullet proof. Just one heck of a job man, looking forward to you finishing. Will be starting on mine probably in another month or two. Will keep watching and reading. :behindsofa:

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Weekend update...

Been busy with lots of non-boat stuff, but I did manage to sneak a couple of hours into building the fuel tank bulkhead frames...

The fuel tank with the rest of the Starboard spacers attached with 5200...

When I am ready to glue the skins on, I did a dry run clamping the pieces together using the Chop Stick Clamps in an altered configuration...

And here is a table top mock up of the tank with the bulkies...this is so I can work out where to add some extra meat for the tank mounting brackets to have something for the screws to bite into...

Hope everyone is having a great weekend...

Stay tuned for future updates...:D

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

What's the space above the tank's intend use?

I'm guessing anything there will be removeable for access to the tank's sending unit, fuel lines & etc...

I ask because you seem to have a great knack for wringing every possible ounce of optimization out of the build process..

You Sir, are absolutely correct-a-mundo!
It may end up being nothing more than a shallow storage space that might be useful for a variety of nick knacks, tools and spare parts...
I plan to just make a shelf that will slide down into the opening, and when access to the fuel tank is needed, just lift it out...

I am the same way when it comes to modeling what I have planned to do...

I feel it is necessary, especially when completely redesigning the interior...even though there are still going to be surprises along the way...by doing it this way I hope to avoid as many of those as possible...
It is also one of the reasons this reconstruction is taking so much time... :)

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Just wanted to drop a couple of pics I shot of the Bulkheads posed in their approximate locations...

It doesn't seem like much but they really give me a good sense of what the interior is going to morph into...

Hurry up weekend, I got me some inspiration...:bolt::nod:
