Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks guys, most appreciated!

Mid week update...

A partial mock up of the deck sections at the house...

Been off and on at the shop so I decided to haul some deck pieces to the grind and squeeze in a little glassin...

Got three of the four sections resin soaked and CSM'd on the undersides...
Section #1...

Section #2

Section #3

Section #3 resin soaked and CSM'd on top...

Hopefully get Sections 1, 2, and 4 completely done before the weekend...then we'll see what happens...

Happy Hump Day, y'all...:D

Good stuff ! Not sure you could plan things any better !
? -- The deck foamed area will be completely sealed up no drain holes ?
Just curious ...

Just wanted to pop in real quick and show that all four of the trailer rims are painted and polished...last detail left is to drill the mounting bolt holes for the center caps and the trailer bling will be ready...:D

Happy Friday, y'all...

Now thats what I call being prepared ! 2 spares just in case . Maybe you should paint the insets white on 2 of em just for an occasional change up .

Great looking end to the week! Have a great long holiday weekend!

BTW: Are the NO CSM areas so you can get good bond to 'raw' wood when you start laying the deck?

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Actually two fold...
If I put CSM in those areas they would be slightly thicker and cause the next section of deck to be raised by the amount of thickness of the csm...
The other reason is that I may just use some Titebond III to glue the sections together, in which case I would have to grind off whatever resin is currently on there for a good bond...
OR...
I might mix up a little slightly thickened resin to use as a glue...
Whichever direction I go, I will pre-drill the deck pieces for some temporary drywall screws to clamp the pieces together while the "glue sets up...
Then when dry/set...I'll remove the screws, drill them out a little bigger and fill the holes with some mayonnaise-like or slightly thicker resin to seal them...
The current plan is to ruff and scuff the tops of the stringers and the matching areas on the underside of the deck sections, run a bead of PB over the top edge of the stringers to act as a glue for the deck sections, along with enough weight to hold it in place until the PB sets up, then PB along the edges plus the tabbing...
If after the first section is in and set, the plan works, I will continue with the others, If it doesn't, then I will modify it slightly by using some screws...hopefully I won't need any fasteners using just the PB on both the stringer tops and the edges and tabbing along the edges to hold the sections in place...
Then when the foam gets poured in there, that should be enough to "glue" everything together, without having to add any additional perforations to the deck itself...
I'll report back with actual results when completed...;)

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Saturday progress...
Got to the shop early and began some Ruff & Scuff of all the areas that would see some action today...

Hull, top of the stringers and the edge of the where the decking would sit...

And the spots where the PB would make contact on the undersides of the 4 deck sections...

Unbelievable as it may seem that took almost 2 hours...geez, time flies when your getting all sweaty and itchy...

Continued...

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Then I mixed up some really thick and hairy PB...

Buttered the top of the stringers and slapped down the first section of decking with some improvised weights...

Left over PB was used along the edges and while waiting for that to kick...
Pulled the boat out into the sun to speed up the set time...then it was lunch time...:hungry:

Full tank of fuel in the gut and it was time to tackle the next section...

Checked the first section and PB glue is a total success, actually held the deck down even though there is some upward tension on it due to the built in dip in the center...YES!

I prepped the next section by pre-drilling where the screws would go to pull the scabs on the previous section tight...

So I mixed up more of the super thick and hairy PB, buttered the stringer tops and the tops of the scabs

Laid down the second section, ran the screws in and used up any left over PB to fill a bit around the edges, then moved the weights into place...

Here you can see the screws used to pull the two sections together...

Last procedure of the day was to mix a bit more PB and set the rear bulkhead pieces into place and add some strips of CSM to help lock them in...

It was then about 3:30 PM and the sky went from hot and sunny to cool and dark gray green as a huge thunderstorm started rolling in from the West...

So I decided it was as good a time as any to call it a day...gonna get outa Dodge on Sunday, but Monday I'll try and get the last couple of sections in and PB the entire perimeter...

Hope everyone is having and awesome holiday weekend...
