5.0 on a 24' boat, no thanks. May be a an okay cruiser I suppose, but I wouldn't take less than the 5.7L. Even then I'd still be wanting a big block.

You need a least a 5.7 in a 24'. Duo props doesn't hurt or a 7.4. 5.0 would be way under powered.

a 5.7 is a direct swap for the 5.0. Everything should bolt right up. I have the 5.0 FI in my boat and if the 5.0 ever pukes I will swap it over with a 5.7. The only thing I am not sure on is the ECM Chip, I am sure you could purchase this though if the programming was different for the bigger motor. 5.0FI is fine on my boat but it is 3 feet shorter at 21 feet or so.

Ok I have a little more info.

It is a 1998 regal Ventura 24' and has the Volva penta 5.0 with fuel injection. The owner says it will do around 38 to 40, and does get out of the hole in a hurry.

Is this boat under powered? How would you repower with fuel injection?

Sounds like a nice boat but sounds like it has the old fuel injection instead of the more modern multi port injection that came around 2002. That seems like too little engine for a 24 foot boat. If I searched for the right model, it looks like it weighs in at just about 4000lbs dry. Adding fuel, passengers and gear makes its sound like one to take a pass on. As for repowering, I wouldn't even consider it. I'd just keep right on looking.

Our 21 footer with a 5.7 Gxi weighs in close to 4000 pounds dry and with me aboard and 60 gallons of fuel it ran 55mph on GPS.

Now put a smaller motor in a bigger boat and you'll be wishing for a Big Block.

Be patient...don't rush into a purchase you know is not right. The right boat will come along and basically fall in your lap!!!

I think we have a winner. I have been out of touch for a few days as we have been on the road. Every hotel we have stayed in did not have free WiFi until this one. Let me Bring you guys up to speed.

Last week I found a 1995 220 Sea Ray with a 454/ Bravo combination. The owner has had it since new and just had a mini restoration done last winter. The deck has gel coat on it now, and just needs some snap in carpet. After spending alot of time on the phone with him and exchanging alot of email with pictures and questions, we have a deal. It is more than we wanted to spend, but the boat is just what we wanted, and I came to the realization that if you want a good 22-24 ft bowrider you have to spend more. There are lots of 6k 24 footers, but they are basket cases. I still feel like it is a good deal, but it is not the steal of the century.

That brings me to the trip. The boat is in South Carolina, and I live in Texas. Yes we are on the road to pick it up. However we made a little detour to a place called Disney. We thought that if we are going to be on the east coat, we might as well hit Disney for Christmas (we were going to do that in the spring anyway) and then head up and get the boat. We left on Wednesday afternoon spent the night in Jackson Mississippi, and then drove in to Orlando late last night. We then got up this morning and did Disney Hollywood Studios today. What an awesome park, and the Christmas lights are stunning. Tomorrow we will do Magic Kingdom and then hit the road to South Carolina on Sunday. We are not huge fans of Epcot so we are bypassing that park. So that is where we are now.

You guys might think I am crazy, but I have a gut feeling about this boat. After spending so much time talking to the owner, and researching, this has to be the boat. It is hard to explain, but it hits you, and you just know. Alisa (my wife) felt the same way. So we picked up on Wednesday and took off. We did not have reservations anywhere and we are just winging the whole trip. For anyone that knows us understands that this sort of thing is SOOOOOOO against the grain for us. We have our trips planned and packed MONTHS in advance. So far things have been really smooth, and I hope that things will continue to stay that way.

So anyway that is the story. I will keep updating you guys as the days progress. The deal could always go south, but I am cautiously optimistic.

Here are some pictures of her.

That's a great looking boat! Like i said earlier, it's OK to pay a bit more for the good ones. Life is too short to mess around with the bad. Be very proud and good luck! :D

Well, we are off to Magic Kingdom on 5 hours sleep. They say this is the busiest day of the year, so we are getting an early start. I am getting exited about the boat.

great looking rig! - the out drive oil looks a little low in the bottle- I would not sweat it but ask about it. better off loosening bottom drive screw & see what drips out.

I have the same motor(almost) in my boat in avatar and it will hit 40mph. That one should fly.

On the trip home stop after the 1st hour and check the trl hubs for excessive heat--warm is OK-then check every 2 hrs.

Bring it over to Grapevine this summer and i'll buy you a beer!

Sweet! It looks like a bigger version of our BR200. You may want to check the wood around the engine compartment. For all that is solid on a SeaRay, I'm surprised where they used poorly treated plywood. I replaced the back and the two side walls of our BR200 with Linex coated boards last year.

At least your Ray will have a motor. Our SeaRay may get a 5.7 this winter.

Frisco not to nit pic but I have the same make trailer and it's almost exact except the size and I noticed the very rear cross brace or lack there of one is it look to be designed that way or has it been removed (doubtful) just looks odd not to have one at all.

You're right. The trailer looks like the one under my 200, just minus the rear frame brace.

Still a good looking rig.

I also noticed that the bunk's are attached to whatt looks like rectangular open end tubes which look fastened to the outer frame rails (see the bolt head) and not the mid cross braces?.I'll be the 1st to say I admire all of frisco's work and hate nit pickin but it's just seems under designed for the larger rig? But hey it must work out OK I sure would like to work up to a rig of that scale next Frisco's gonna love that Ray because I sure love mine it's just a couple of sizes smaller.

Well we are done with Disney, and it was a blast. We are watching the weather closely, as it is snowing where we are going. We might be delayed a day.

As far as the trailer goes, I noticed that too, and TOTALLY forgot to ask about it. I sure hope it is not a problem.
