swimplatform.com ESP's are anywhere from $1,000 to $1,800 depending on your boats' size and beam.

Personally, I would avoid the Mariah. They were considered very nicely appointed boats in the 90's,but that one just doesn't look like it was well cared for, however after seeing your Glastron redux, I have no doubt that you could tackle most of it's problems.I don't really see any problems with the Four Winns, they make a nice boat and I do not think that those stains are a major issue. That being said, you stated that your wife "loved" the room in the 22' Mariah. Being winter and all, might you continue looking at slightly larger (22'-24') bowriders to see how they compare cost wise, for as we all know, every foot or two makes a big difference in interior space and one of your stated goals was for more room for friends and all. Just my $0.02 worth.

I agree.

Frisco, if your current boat is to small then "upgrading" all the way to a 20 foot Four Winns is going to have you shopping again very shortly.

And while we all love your posts around here and I definately love spending other peoples money I think you should be looking a few feet bigger so it will last you a lot longer.

We have a 21 foot boat (21'8") with a 3 foot swim platform (which is awesome) and we have comfortably put 6 adults and 2 kids aboard for a day. I would say we could even squeeze 6 adults and 4 kids but that would be absolute max I'd want to have aboard.

Keep hunting.

I think we need to be looking at a large boat too. It is really funny how hard it is to buy a boat. The four winns deal looks like it is sour too. I started asking some detailed questions about things I saw, and the guy just shut down. He told me I should go look up the street, as they have a large selection of boats. WTF?????? I feel like I am at a car used car dealership. It seams that when a boat seller realizes that they have a educated customer on their hands, they kick them to the curb. They want to screw the first time boat buyer.

They way Alisa (my wife) and I look at it, is if it is meant to be, everything will fall into place. We never force anything. They right boat will come along.

Frisco- stay away from the consignment yard there on 35E in Lewisville--they might have a few decent boat but the people I met there 3 years ago were crooks/liars:eek:

if you see a boat online but far away you may get a iboat form reader to check it out for you.

just my $0.02

I know the lot. I think people are just sitting on their boats right now. I think we decided to look too late in the season.

Uhhhh No. your not to late, not by a long shot, BUT you and your wife have the perfect attitude, don't be in a hurry when the right one finds you everything will fall into place. You could use this time to get your finances in place and or drool on the computer at available boats and see what happens! I think you are in a great position to pull the trigger when your boat falls in your lap!

Amen to that. We are Cash buyers and know where we need to stop. We have pushed it a little higher now as we think we really want the bigger boat, but I think we will be alot happier.

Well I went from a almost 20' boat to almost 25' and I have yet to regret any part of that decision, I doubt you will either.

Don't forget that beam is probably a bigger factor than length for the size of boats you are looking at. I went from a 19.5 foot boat to a 21 foot boat but the beam was almost a foot wider in the new boat and it feels huge inside. The layout is also much better in the wider boats. I am at the top of the size of boat I would feel comfortable trailering any distance and would probably need a new tow vehicle and bigger storage area if I went much bigger, all factors to consider. I think you timing is great, I purchased my last 2 boats in Feb when folks were tired of paying storage and just wanted them gone. After Dec 31st they are also another year older and that has a psychological effect on peoples pricing.

What were the differences in beam?

I went from 7'6" to 8'4", and the boat feels a lot bigger.

Sorry, I'd stay away from that particular Mariah. If it were in the same condition as the Four Winns, I'd say jump on it. But if the upholstery/exterior looks like it has been uncared for, it's not likely they put much more attention to the mechanical side either.

24' with a 454 would be a nice boat. Friend just bought a 94 for $9000 & is very happy. Rides great. At $6000 you could try to get them down some to cover the interior work. Worth a shot to see how much they really want out of it right before Xmas you never know.

Superpop how deep is your garage where you store your Chap? I always wonder since our only limiting factor is garage depth and our Chap a size down from yours fits within a centimeter with the tounge folded in a standard depth garage. We couldn't even get the extended swim platform to fit.

Re: I have another boat in my sights. UPDATE 12-11-2010 New pictures.

I wish I had a garage for the boat, it would never fit in my 2 car garage, but I store my boat on the side of my house on a pad. I purchased one of those Costco car tents that is 10'X20' and it barely fits. It keeps the boat and trailer bone dry all year though. In the summer I just pull the front door off and it is ready at moments notice. I also added some 2 foot legs to the tent and in the summer I can raise it up so I can walk around and work on the boat.

Well I get home today and i see some pictures that have been printed out of a 1998 Regal 24' Bowrider. It seems that my bride has taken up the search with me. Hunter green, and all the fixins that we like, but just a bit out of the price range. She told me she thought is was worth it, and we should look into it. Yeeehaw!!! Sorry... I am from Texas. Anyway the seller and I have made contact and I should have more info tomorrow.

It's worth it to pay for a good one, I know how tempting it is to offer low dollar in this economy. But overall, good boats are hard to find if it checks out. Be happy, get the one you want!:p

Ok I have a little more info.

It is a 1998 regal Ventura 24' and has the Volva penta 5.0 with fuel injection. The owner says it will do around 38 to 40, and does get out of the hole in a hurry.

Is this boat under powered? How would you repower with fuel injection?
