Ahh, I think it fitting that my 100th post be congratulating you on your Supreme Mariner status. I think you have earned that title. You have gone out of your way to help me and countless others.

In fact, as recently as yesterday, you taught me that a gimbal bearing is not supposed to come out with an outdrive....

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

thanks for the link.......that was all over the news here....those pics were shot about 1/2 km from where i was when is saw the waves....

he was at summerhill winery that over looks the lake.

the lake was very calm when he took that pic, there were practicaly no boats on the lake.

i really wish i had my camera that day.....since it was the first trip out , i was going to take it....but i left it on the truck seat at the launch.

next season....im going to spend a lot of time floating in that area, the only problem is that the area is not far from the nude beach.......the beach that fat old men hang out at !!!:eek::mad:

I have actually thought about building a sub.......but to get to the depths needed. it would have to be made from metal and reevits.

so i just cant see it happening !

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

All this talk of submarines reminded me of the time oops! stuffed the nose of the bilgeliner in a wave. All this water flooded over the nose and was scooped up by the cover. When the boat popped up the water was thrown straight up and over the windshield and drenched us both.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I was wondering if you could send me some information on this mat you have. I checked out a few places but not sure where to get it so I have to do some shopping around and also see if I can get some pricing on it. I did check out vectoply's web site and looks good, lot's to offer but I just would like to make sure I get the right stuff for this project of mine. Thanks Vince

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

hi vince.....

welcome to iboats !

what matt are you referring to? chopped strand mat? or csm?

this is the vector ply 1708.......note that one side is a "knit" fabric.....the othre side is a bunch of strands in a random fashion

picbroup10005.jpg

the matt....also known as Chopped Strand Matt....or CSM is stitched to the back of the knit.

choppes strand matt is sold by it self without the 17 oz knit attached to it....

it commonly comes in 3 different weights or "thickness's"
.75 oz......very thin..
1 oz.....medium
1.5 oz.......this is medium thick...

csm is the workhorse of the polyester fibreglass industry. it is also readily available even at wallmart.

im sorry i don't have pics of the product but in this pic you can kinds see it piled up next to the transom

picgroup15004.jpg

and here as it is being applied to the interior of the transom

picgroup15005.jpg

i hope this helps vince....please post back if it does not

cheers

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Oops wanted to thank you for the information and pics, I appreciate it as I am looking for a vendor to deal with as far as the csm is but the resin too. Stay in touch and I will the same. I have read a bunch of posts on here and I have to admit that I am a novice at this so constructive criticisms are most appreciated and welcome. Knowledge and education are the keys to a great start but the hands on makes a world of difference . I was going to go with the poly resin . The ship is an 88 so I would hint that it should be made of poly and not epoxy.
