Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Cant wait to see those finished seats and the pics on the process of sewing the vinyl. My wife is going to be assisting with the seat builds on our boat. When I boat it I told everyone its a family project. Although its really my project. My nephew has helped with the demo mainly cause he likes to destroy stuff. I have had to teach him temperance and patience. I an still back and forth on whether to regel my entire boat will be putting up some new pics on my forum I created for this project witht he hull and keel gel coat chips that are missing.

thinking about it Oops did you take detailed pics of the bliner interior fab and not just the before and afters would love to see those with more info.

Thanks and your an inspiration to all of us.

ill try and dig up more pics of the process i used for the sewing.....however, i was mostly working by myself, so taking pics was hard during the process.

as far as re gelling your boat.....it is a ton of work.....imho.....the only time you really need to do it ...is if the whole hull is crazed. if you just dont like the color....paint is a good option. but post pics....and let the forum have a look. possibly we can suggest an alternative route !

cheers

Thanks again, I found a really bad problem, one that may kill my budget, wait til you see this.

post a link in my pms vince.....i have been looking but i cant find it......

it might not be as bad as a problem as you think....motor is the only thing that can really kill a project......even then....there are fixes !

yeppers........when i started the build.....i was going to go to the pros to do the upholstery......however....upholstery is easy.....so i bought a sewing machine

its not perfect.....but the people and pro mechanics that saw it up close said it was just as good as any pro job.

the interior in the hull extension boat....(i cant call it by its name because that would give away the theme) is very easy to do.....the captains seats are the hard part....but still, no big deal.

i intend to be starting on the upholstery in the new year, and completed by march or april. lol....this depends on how busy i am building other peoples boats.....i have a few deck/foam jobs to do this winter.....so its going to be fairly busy

Hey Oops nice job on the upholstery. I did the same thing you did, bought myself a sewing machine and started practising. I decided to tackle the seats first after taking them up the road for a price. He quoted me over 500 to do the seats. I said oh my god if I can just get it to look ok and clean them up I will be happy. I took them back to him to show him my job...he said you never did them. I am glad he seen them first to compare how I did. I have had people ask me to do theirs and my bro asked me to do his 66 chevy bench seat . I felt pretty good. I thought about it after I should have done easier stuff first to get practise, but I am happy with the job on the seats. Now to finish the rest of the boat.

Cheers

oops

Man the pics would be great but I have spent more time at work on these forums and found some great threads from mrdjflores and others on sewing up an interior so no rush on those.

I started a thread on my restoration here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=524432

The closed bow is almost entirely covered in crazing I think someone walked on it and it wasnt designed for it there is no bracing underneath just the fiberglass form. I might brace it while I am repairing it. The Fiberglass on my hull seems to be fairly thin compared to yours. I think I am going to add a couple of layers up the sides to help stiffen things up a bit and make sure the top and bottom are securely fastened. I am thinking of putting an aluminum backing strip fiberglassed to the lower hull for the rivets for the rub rail so that it makes a more solid connection and grip. The rear deck is fairly crazed as well due to the supports for the rear deck were removed when I got it although they were there. Gotta love people that buy boats know nothing about them and refuse to learn how to properly take care of them. I had to add that last part cause I didnt know anything about boats before but I am learnign a lot. My plans are for this boat to be passed down for generations. With all the heavy bracing in the rear deck the weight at the joints caused a lot of crazing. I think the Texas heat here has also led to more of the same in other parts of the boat. I have though about using a good build primer and sand to fill the cracks but everyone I have talked to says that the cracks will return especailly with paint over the top. Now that the boat is off the trailer and I can get under it the keel is pretty much chunked up dont have pics of this yet maybe should get that done this weekend and put up on my thread. The rest of the hull seems fairly good condition if I can do a flip on the hull I think I can just re-gelcoat the keel and cover in plastic to get it to harden. The top though I have been told would need to grind out all the cracks so they will fill with gelcoat and by the time I do that I might as well grind down the entire top it will be faster and easier but more costly in resrpaying the gelcoat.

Anyways thanks for the advise always didnt mean to hijack this thread from you.

That looks like it came that way from the factory oops! Nice work. How does she handle?

You are actually my inspiration for my first project. I have only just started but making progress slowly.

thanks.... got a link to your proj?

the boat is very fast......smooth.....and gets on plane immediately.....like instantly. it accelerates so fast it has ripped the lugs out of the seat base.

when you turn at speed.....you better hang on.....it just digs the water.

as with any 25 footer running a single screw alpha set up.....around the dock it can be a challenge. but that just takes time to get used to .

my only complaint is that when you come off a big wave, because the hull is so stiff it can hit hard. the chines actually trap water instead of pushing the water gently away from the hull for a soft landing.....it is a hard bang......but you know that the boat is very strong...you can feel it.

17 days with no new information not even sure what page this was on but its bumped now. I know your busy making money working on other peoples boats oops. I hope you just get to work on your boat soon. I think we all want to see the finished product and the theme.

Have a merry christmas and happy new year since we probably wont hear much from you until after then.
