Re: hull extension in progress with pics
hi bud.....the glass info on the thread is great.....we had several in depth conversations on how to glass, and the guys really came thru with good stuff. so i hope it helps any body that reads it.
as far as the stepped hull......i have been trying to down load images of it for a while.....but firefox keeps crashing on me.....maybe you will have better luck.
http://www.vectorpowerboats.com/Downloads_files/31609_eprint.pdf
the link was supplied by friscoboater......it is a powerboat magazine article that is featuring vector power boats....
the vector......or bat boat......was designed by a guy named oke mannerfelt.....and vector got the rights to manufacture the hulls. (vector is here in kelowna, and is owned by a guy named rex........rex has ties with campion boats....but is mainly concentrating on building the vector.
the hull design allwos air to be sucked under the hull....thusly....the hull rides on a cushion of air, rather than water......this reduces drag signifantly......and allows as much as a 5 mph increase with the same power.
the height and the distance between the steps is crucial for top performance.
you will see many new boats with the stepped design......especially in the over 27 foot range.
most of the production steps today are mostly cosmetic, and help performance a bit but are mostly just a sales feature
the formula for the step height, weight to length ratio is a well kept secret, so but nothing like the engineered performance of the oke step design.
if you look really closely at the water line of the pic below......you will see two indents of the hull at amidships and the 3/4 point of the hull.....the real treat is under water.
this is the vector "bat boat"
in this one....you get a better look at the steps in a speed situation
another thing about this boat....is the fact that the pics were taken about 75 mph.......look closely at the girls hair.......its not moving at 75 !
the cockpit is almost completely wind proof
