Re: hull extension in progress with pics

well.,........

after three days of trying to remove the bearing carrier from the botton end....i finally got it out.

the puller i was using had threaded rod for the "grabs". the carrier was so stuck...that the threaded rod just kept bending........so i switched to a chain type set up......the chain actually streched while trying to pull the carrier!....

finally ......i used aircraft cable.....heat and an impact gun !.....she finally slowly came out !
that was one stuck part.......im diving in to the gears now to inspect it before i put the new upper on.

hopefully... all will be fine and i will be back on the water tommorow!

no such joy on the water.......

i pressure tested the lower.....and it seems my welders didnt get the cracks......it held no pressure.

i sprayed it with soapy water and shot some air in the oil filler on the bottom of the drive......and there were casing cracks every where.....!....

back to the drawing board !

Y'know this isn't actually a thread anymore, it's become it's own forum....it's just that nobody has realized it yet. :D

Sucks on the drive, but we all know you'll get it right, and bullet proof. Maybe Nessie decided to take a nip at it while you were out there.

lol.....

yep.....the lower has teeth marks in it from ogopogo !.....glad my "bait" wasnt hangin in the water at that time.....:D

the welders really screwed the pooch on this one....it cost me my uppers.....the cracks were so big the soapy water shot out of the lower instantly.

hey.....hows the rad comin mike?

...lol....and as far as this thread being its own forum..........never expected anything this big......ill get back to posting pics right away.....and hopefully i can finish this sucker.....but im glad the extension went well....the hull is really solid.

did you see on e-bay .....they have 383 strokers pushing 425 hp (long blocks) @ $2500.

mannnnnn........that is just one hull re finish for me. im hoping for another storm ....lol

Just put a sail on it and be done with it. :D

Crappy news on the drive. I'm sure you'll have it repaired/replaced in no time.
Have you finished the interior?

I know what the problem is. You haven't been able to use up enough of your Corona overstock to complete the boat because you can't drink and Gel on customers boats...I think everyone should send Oops a bottle opener :D

My Radiator came in 3 days shipping when they said 5-7...gotta love Amazon.com...and I ordered it on July 3rd! Popped it in the van, new radiator cap, new thermostat and filled it up with antifreeze...been truckin' ever since. I've still got the old core and need to figure out what the best thing to do with it is...it's in great shape other than the crack. They sell the outer plastic tanks to repair with, but I'm in now way qualified to mess with that, but I'd sure like to see it go to a radiator shop or something to be reused.

I wish. It's a GM radiator, so there are equal parts aluminum and plastic. I think a case of beer would have about the same return on aluminum weight.

Re: hull extension in progress with pics

Don't think i've ever mentioned it before........
But I blame Oops for giving me the boat bug.
I read online a few years back about this guy cutting his boat in half and extending it.
I was hooked.
Onto my second boat project now, and still shopping around for anything that catches my eye.
Thank you Oops for the addiction. Working on boats is seriously addicting for some odd reason. maybe it's the poly resin. lol
