Re: hull extension in progress with picks
Re: hull extension in progress with picks
the boat turned perfectly......the hull was dead straight on the water....it really was a joy to drive.......
as you can see here....we are still running rich in the fuel....and the boat has a slight list to starboard....thats because of the seat and the battery (i only used one for the test instead of the opposite side two batterys.
the seats i am using here are form a chrysler lebaron.....they feel great you sit high and very comfortable.......the bases are swivel. the seats will be recovered in the theme colors.
now.....
the fault report !
as stated, the boat is heavy.....the boat was weighed around 4100 with the trailer....the trailer is about 800 lbs. so after completion.....it should weigh about 35-3700 lbs wet.
the carb was acting up bad...somthing that didnt happen the other day.....at 2000 rpm it crapped out till 3000....so a lot of acceleration tests were not completed. it is still burning very rich...
bad leak from the drain plug.....i have no idea how this happened ! it was put in well with a lot of sealant.....but it is a minor fix.
minor leak from the trim pump....after we turned the boat off...we heard a leak....but the drive stays up.
there was a bad vibration at around 3k it seemed to level out around 4000 rpm but still...i have no idea where this came from.......when you rev the motor on land....it is fine.....but i would consider the vibration to be severe....it is possible that the drive has a bent prop shaft. however we are going to try several different ways and investigate this to find the cause....it could be just a bad prop.
the prop......i chose a 19 for the test because it is a good intermeadate prop. however at 4200 rpm the boat was gps ed at 67 kph....about 45 and i had a third throttle left to go.....so i need a bigger wheel...possibly as much as a 25 4 blade. however at 4k and tou accelaterated to 4200 the boat really picked up...in fact...it beat the bayliner in a race.
minor gauge problems...all in all the problems were all mechanical.....the hull it self....besides being heavy......was perfect.
the good stuff..........
i love the way the boat handles...it feels so strong....solid. it turns like its on rails.
i love the way the chairs feel and how high you sit.....i literally didnt want to get out of the boat.
the windows were great.....it really cut out the wind coming down the sides.
with a different prop and the carb tuned...it is possible that i hit the 60 mph mark.
the heater !......
this was a really pleasant surprise....it really changed the boating experince for me....even in the hotter days....it can be cool in canada in the evenings if you are wet or damp from swimming or skiing....
the heater just took the edge off.....
i highly reccomend that any one that is building a boat add one. im my opinion now....it is a manditory item.
all in all even tho it needs more testing ..... at this point im calling the hull extension a sucess....it could be lighter....but dont forget...i had never done major fiberglass work before. and i wanted the boat strong....strong was the trade off against weight.
noklu and i are going to rip into it tommorow and possibly do more water tryals if i can get the mechanic to fix the carb...(he rebuilt it) then we will be looking for that vibration.
cheers
