Re: hull extension in progress with picks

yeah Ooops, do the cushions yourself. I just started doing mine. I bought the base model Singer 1507 from Wal-Mart for $89...already did one cushion...at one spot on the cusion, where the welting meets, that little machine sewed through 7 layers of vinyl, without even grunting. but make sure you use a 16 gauge ball tip needle....one cushion down, 17 more to go....oh, and i've never used a sewing machine before....

you should a how - to post regarding the creation of these pimp cushions!

Oops, Great thread! What dedication! You deserve a Corona or 12:D! It took me the better part of a week and a half to read from the beginning. Can't wait to see it in the water.

BTW - thanks for the encouragement in my "Disappointed..." thread. I appreciate it.

oops, how long till you learn that you need to either type your stuff up in notepad or something or at least do a COPY before you click "post". I never trust the web when typing a lot of stuff. It's far too easy for your session to time out or the server not respond, etc.

Here ya go oops!
Since everyone is getting impatient to see it in the water, I took it off the trailer and put it in for you.;)
You will have to thank Achris for the water, it's in Australia. :D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hi again Oops
Well because I have time and your busy I did an experiment.
I have a 90 chaparrell 20' 5.7 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Vortec Edelbrock intake., So I think its Similar to what you will be running.
I put a temp guage in the intake manifold and left the stock one
The guages read exactley the same.
They said 160 at idle and went up to 180 @ 4 grand in unison.
So for an acurate read that is probably the place to go.
I don't have a heater, so not sure what diff. that would make.
Good luck

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

hi coyote.
thanks for the experiment.

the problem with the sensor is not thats in the intake....but that i had to use a plumbing "t" off the manifold.

so.....the output from the block goes straight from the water pump to the heater core.....
the discharge from the heater core...(cooled water) runs into the "t" directly acrross the "t" is the temp sensor.....so that means the cold water will hit the sensor first and then return to the block.....
hopefully i can post pics this weekend.

im going to try to track down a sensor that bubba suggested because i just really hate the set up.

but it wont cause the boat to sink....so i can just live with it for now

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

hi guys...

quick update.
im hoping to have my puter back by this weekend......i actually saw it last night.

im insuring the two trailers today.
the bilge liner and the big boats trailer.....in canada we gant drive anything on the road unless its insured and current tagged on the licence plates.

the bilge liner is going to the shop today for summerizing.
so i hope murphy does not show up.

the big boat will also be rolled out and given a final land systems runup (with the new carb jets) but all looks good from the last run up.

it still needs the valve covers....im getting them today.

the new windows are installed and all the glue was curing last night.
im really impressed with how it looks....it really changed the proportion of the boat.

noklu will be in town later today so im going to put him to work :D
he gets to install the seats. we will see how long he takes to yelp about his back....maybe he can help swap motors in the moomba ....heh heh heh ...pull the manifolds....tee hee.

the weather here is fantastic we are at 16 deg....thats mid sixtys....and little wind......i was across the bridge the other day and there was just a slight ripple.....better than flat glass.
im just hoping we can find a boat launch deep enough for the monster long boat.
the lake is so low that the trailers will drop off the end of the launch before the larger boats are off.

i have another few gazillion pics of the building processes and hopefully ill be posting the vid of the first outing tommorow night!

cheers

There is also drilling and taping the intake As long as it is a water jacket you should be fine.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

How about inserting a T into the hose right where you take the coolant from the water pump, and put your temp sender in the middle of the T?

Bubba you know more about this than me, do they make non-contact temp sensors that have a thermistor output?

I have used IR temp sensors before but they all have a thermocouple output, and in this case a thermistor is needed.

Have a great day

Rob.

Oops
I went back and looked at your set up.
You have a later set up than mine.
My termostate housing has the sensor in it.
So it seems you could drill and tap the
Housing in the engine side of the curculator system to put a sending unit in.
Just another thought.
Good luck this weekend.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Launch Delayed. We had trouble with the seats so we are heading out in the morning for the launch. There was only an hour of light left and by the time we got fuel and both boats launched it was going to be dark. It's better to have the whole day to fool around on the water than just the short time we would have had. oops is a little bummed and he probably won't get any sleep tonight.

By now, he has to be getting used to it! It's been a long wait for all of us, but what's a good story without a little dramatic pause? ...because NONE of us are going to sleep this night! :D
