Re: hull extension in progress with picks

it was now pushing 11 00 pm ish....and defenitly beer-o-clock....

as i was sitting there sweating with a cool one in my hand...i knew i would not be able to glass the strings tonight...i didnt want to stop on the boat so i decided to make the outer set of stringers and the motor mount structure.

i took the measurements...cut the stringers....with the grinder i shaped them to the hull......

then gave them three coats of slo kick resin.

picgroup25021.jpg

the resin was on every edge that would be bedded.....

i actually built those pretty quick but it was still an hour or two......so.....beer-o-clock again.

as i was sitting there....i was kinda dissapointed because i didnt get the strings glassed in...i started thinking....(it was 2 am)... "i should bed these puppies tonight"

so i grabbed the bubbles, cabosil, resin. and my trusty mixer and started making peanut butter........

after bedding the new strings and motor mount system

picgroup25022.jpg

it was 3:40 am....i started thinking again....the peanut butter will be kinda weak tommorow when i cut them down to size.....so i decided to tab them in....

next job....to do what i wanted to do yesterday !

cheers oops

Wow... it's really starting to look together, a bit more like a boat than an empty hull.

I feel your pain on the ruff and scuff... I have lost track of the times I've needed to grind just one more time on my boat.

Keep going, it's going to feel better and better as it comes together :)

On mine, I just used unwaxed. Was told that it did not really matter. If you were going to used waxed to seal it, (not sure that it is required) I would just wipe it down with acetone and apply the resin.

Have a great day,

Ooops,

Very impressed with your work. This is a project of monumental size and the progress I see from your photos and descriptions is simply amazing. Kinda makes me think of the days when a boat was laid up by hand. (not that I was around back then!) :D

I just thought I would stop by and give you an at-a-boy....so AT-A-BOY! great job so far. Ready to see the finished project. I still don't think you have left enough hints as to the theme....I have a guess but....

If anything I have learned from your thread...I have learned to keep plenty of cold beer in the fridge...lol

Again Great Job, Keep up the hard work.

Theme? I was thinking of one for my boat too. It was named "Sloppy Seconds" and then "Jay Bird". Nope! I found the answer on a bumper sticker I put on the rear of my riding mower.....

didnt get much work done yesterday....

had to go in to work for a bit ....by the time i got to the bote it was 5:30

then the little lady dropped by for a visit at the shop.....4 hours later...it was too late to start glassing.....

so i just got the new stringers and motor cage cut down to size.

If she ain't got a gas mask on and a grinder in her hand I would'nt let her in the shop she'll just hold thing's up. In an emergency [more wobbly's] she could get in. Just my 2cnts. :D

i was kinda thinking of wrapping a layer of 1780 wround her pie whole and a quick dab of fast kick resin :D

it was nice she came to see it. shes more interested in being in it than worling on it.

btw....bring yer work duds

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

ok....up date

i forgot my camera at the shop last night so the pics will have to wait till tonight.....

hit a small snag.... i started building the sole......

(my guys cut up all my pt ply for the transom and the strings, so i had to go get some 1/2 inch ext ply....i want to qiuck dry it, so im cutting it first then drying the smaller sections.

when laying the sole there was some high spots in the stringers....so im going to have to grind them down......

the problem is i just spent four hours sweeping and vaccuming the boat.

(there is a big difference in the surface prep between sweeping alone and sweeping AND vaccuming)

so i decided to start glassing the stringers.....i layed 35 peices of 50 inch long by 4 inch wide strips.....i used a wet out table for this...the small peices are a breeze to glass....im using csm for the inital string/hull bond....

ill post more picks and give detail tonight ...basicaly a totorial on glassing stringers.

cheers
