Crap.

Thought I could edit my post before anyone saw it.

Yeah, I saw the thread you meant and read it.

I don't talk about MBS. This year I'm just worried about the "too much time at work and no time for fishing" problem I seem to have.

hahahah yea got to be quicker then that around here !! lol and sorry about the time thing !! you need to make time !!! John

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

well yesterday was a lot of fun.......

i did some more sanding....and with nothing left to do.......

i decided to open up the box of roundtuits that were delivered about 5 ish.

as you know roundtuits are really rare and uasually back ordered.....i found a company that had some in stock so i grabbed what i could.

just then oops sr. dropped by with a little project......he had a paddle from a dragon boat.....it was carbon fiber.....i was suprised it weighed so little.

the paddle had a big scar across it.......and the carbon fiber was even torn.

so i just put tape on each side of the gash.....mixed some epoxy.....smeared it on.....screeded the excess off......then wrapped the paddle in shrink wrap.

budda bing.......done....invisible.

after that i started to build the steering wheel....and did a few other of odd jobs around the boat that i have wanted to get to.

camera ran outta batterys.....so ill replace those and get more pics tomorrow for you.

cheers
oops

Ooooops I mentioned this in the current roll and tip thread but you might try using foam brushes instead of bristled ones I think that would help alot in your situation and I dont think its the cheap paint since I am using Rustoleum on my boat and it is deffinately CHEAP PAINT :D.

Yeah, you need to do something to fix the paint.

Found the HVLP. I'll try to drop by after work tonight. You gonna be there?

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hey Bud!

That is looking really good one colour. I sure hope that there is something that can be done to fix the paint to Oops standard....

I have had company since I got home and I have just managed to catch up! I am going to come down there as soon as I can. Momma is ready to have the little guy any day so I need to stay pretty close to home!

BTW, I am now the proud owner of a Campion 625:D I had it out with the company visiting and man what a difference! Ready to chase the maiden voyage of the Oops' stretched water limo!

Cheers,
Yar.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

human nature is a really funny thing.....

i have been taught by pros....(one of the best in our area) i have been coached by the best......i have been told how to do it by our guys here and read everything i could on shooting a surface with a paint gun.

i was doing it right with good results.....

about 10 seconds after i started shooting,..10 seconds !!!!...... greg....(AKA ....HE.....) peeked his head around the curtain i had hung..(he was wearing a resporator)..and said ....hold your arm like this....hold your wrist like this....do this..
i giggled....and said....greg....do you want to shoot this?.....he said let me have a go at that gun.....lol

it does not matter how good or bad of a job you are doing....if a pro or someone with more experience than you is near by ....they will inevitably want to take control......lol

well the paint flowed great.....the job looked really good....i mean really good....it was the perfect temp.....even raining out side....cool temp........right up till the roof leaked all over the fresh...(not kicked) paint.
im serious.....someone shoot that bastard murphy !!!!!!!.....really.....
now that means another wet sand......and another shoot at 4 am......ARRR

My jaw dropped when I read that! and reminded me if the cluster I'm going through with my rebuild. Been stuck on painting the gimble housing for months as I was too impatient and now I'm stuck waiting on the gimble so I can proceed. Stupid Rustoleum and 2-4 week cure time

1st time painting the gimble I didn't finish sand with fine enough sand paper and I could see scratches through the paint... Wait a month and wetsand.

2nd time painting the gimble housing it it looked PERFECT, 3 days later I got the bright idea to set it in the sun and it wrinkled the paint  (Bell housing was shot at the same time and it looked perfect, kept this one out of the sun...) Wait a month, and wetsand again

3rd time painting the gimble housing everything looked great, not as perfect as before, but I don't care it's black and going on the boat after it dries. Don't know what the ^#*% happened but the finish wrinkled again, think I got the paint too think and it didn't outgass quick enough. Wait another month and wetsand again :mad::mad:

4th (or maybe it's the 5th) time painting the gimble ring, haven't done it yet as I want to make sure the old paint is completely cured.

You want to know the kicker? The Bell housing mentioned in #2, where I didn't put it in the sun, looks Perfect and has been cured for 3-4 months.

I think Murphy is living in my garage

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Can you include a quart of elbow grease? :D

I meant to tell you, a couple months back I visited a friends paint shop as he was doing some fancy graphics on boat. I saw a trick that once I seen it, it was one of those head smacking moments when you think, "of course, why didn't I do that"?

He had an old over head projector, the ones you use clear plastic sheets with drawings, text, etc. on. (Remember them from school?) Anyhow, he laid out all the graphics on his PC, printed on the clear plastic sheet and tossed on the overhead projector and aimed it at the boat. Result, the graphic shines on the boat allowing him to trace/paint it perfectly once he has it positioned exactly where he wanted it.

Silly me, I was spending forever with a tape measure, strings to find centers, etc. and still didn't get them exactlly where I thought they should be. Next time, I'm renting a cheap overhead projector!!!

I bought one off craigslist a year ago with that very intent ;) We are going to use it to paint graphics in the kids room...eventually....maybe. I've got it for the boat if I decide to do something outside the norm for a glastron boat ( which inevitably I will do because that's my nature :D )
