I'm curious as to how easy it's going to be to clean by the windshield base and those custom dash pods....Not trying to burst any bubbles, they are awesome, but that's the one thought that comes to mind everytime I start to re-engineer anything on my boat.

Probably not any worse than trying to clean the rear window of just about any modern sedan! :) We have a brand new Accord and my wife and I have both tried to clean the rear window with little success.

It took me a week, and I'm not a slow reader. Lot's of good stuff in here. I'm going to have to dig into my 18' BR this fall and replace the deck at the very least. Plan on using Oops's thread as my bible.

yeah mike....i thought about that....but there was no other way i could pull it off........the only way i can clean in those little spases...is water...a paint brush and a vaccume with a crevice nozzle..........they were tough before...there gonna be tougher now....lol

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

well with round two over.....(two coats of paint) its time to size up what i have to do for round three....

kalandcappaint053.jpg

the paint is too shiney to see the small brush ridges that are on the dash console.....it looks good....but nowhere good enough.

kalandcappaint054.jpg

if you really look close you can see brush marks.

however....thinning the paint and waiting till 2 am to paint it worked good....the dust in the shop from the day had setteled....and it was cooler that the mid day heat....so i was impressed with the results....some small spots were perfect.

there is some places that you can see the old blue thru the paint.....but coat 3 will fix that.

kalandcappaint055.jpg

and with that....out came the water....wet sand paper and sweat.

kalandcappaint056.jpg

round 3 starts at 2 am tonight/this morning

Ooooops I think I found the problem with your paint not laying down like it should your using the wrong water . This is the prefered painting and wet sanding water :D.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

awwww now ya tell me...!...lol....

its so hot here that i put away the beer for day time or im toast in just a few hours....so im drinking water....i got two or three bottles open.....one that i drink from.....and one to wash the residual paint off and one for the wet sanding water....(the latter two are tap water) ....ive caught my self grabbing the warm..(wrong) bottle. !

i figgured out where the idea of wet sanding came from.......some grunt in a body shop was sweating his ***** off sanding and dripping on the job, when he discovered it.......hope he made a forution on selling her wet sand paper...lol

lol....years ago in kelowna i used to go to the hotels that were doing renovations and buy the window shaker air conditioner units..(50 or 75 at a time)..take them home....clean ...test and repair if nessary and then sell them at 175 a pop.....(that was before danby flooded the market with the 119 dollar 3500 btu ac units)....

i would sell three before 11 am then my bud and i would head out on the lake and water ski till dark.......it was a fantastic summer.....

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

ok....its 430 ish am here....about 730 on the east coast......

i just got home from the boat......forgot my camera , so sorry no pics. but i will have some tommorow/today of the progress/reversal....lol

as above....i wet sanded the boat agein to get it ready for tonight's paint...i thinned the paint out, by adding 10 percent mineral spirits.....(sales instructions)......well....the paint was sooo thin that it was like water.....

knowing somthing was really wrong.....i dipped the roller and hit the upper deck.

well.....it still wouldn't lay down....even as thin as it was......i rolled it.....it was so thin that the bubbles broke right away....but when i tipped it. deep ridges appeared......i barely touched the paint with the brush !

i waited about 10 minits waiting for the paint to self level....it wouldn't.

sooooo.......instead of painting the whole boat with a bad batch of paint...i decided to just re coat the areas that were still showing some blu thru the paint.........ill have to re sand those tomorrow....but at least i can go back to the store and talk to the mgr. and find out what the heck is going on that the paint wont lay dowm even under a super thin watery coat...

ill see if it will dry any different tomorrow morning....but it didn't look any different when i left.

so.....ill see what it looks like.....and yes...ill take the camera. ;)

cheers
