Re: hull extension in progress with picks

hi guys.....sorry i have not posted in a while .....i was mrs oops house and she limits my puter time to zip......

as no klu mentioned.....the transom seal kit is back ordered.....its gotta come from some where deepest darkest states.....that uasually means three weeks

we are waiting on the previous owner of the drive/motor package to call with the drive numbers.....we were able to get partial numbers off the leg....so if the numbers he gives me are different.........well, lets just say the mechanic will be getting the housing back and fixing it.

all the parts are there ....just sitting and waiting to go in... but we are held up...

tackels hard water comment might have merrit !

so....in the mean time between visits from ondarvr and tackel.....(the highlights of my week) i have been working on final finishing of the cap.....

let me tell ya....i dont like the fairing......but its just about done....my hands are full of compound....and blistered to the bone.....but one more day and i think its done.

i have been hitting it with hi build primer and have the consoles 99% done and the starboard cap done.....i was working on the port side cap till midnight last night....so that side is coming.

the top of the cap itself will be easy as there is just a few grinding marks to smooth out. after thats done its cap painting time.......then re assembly of the cap parts.....

still a lot of work.....but not as much as before.....the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

cheers

we spent most of the time yacking....but still managed to get some thing done.....that case of beer didnt stand a chance !....lol

im going to hit it for a few more hours today....then mrs oops and i are going camping for a few days....ill be back on thursday night.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Good to hear Ward! I'm starting to get that feeling....forward progress is a helluva motivator. So much that I just picked up 100ft of 1708 Biax tape, some mat, resin and marine filler. Once I get this hull patched up, I get to start the stringers. If I manage to get the stringers and the floor in THIS YEAR, I will be completely STOKED! It's the major milestone I'm shooting for.

I was telling my supplier about your boat and he told me about a guy that took a 33 ft Fountain boat and made it into a 38 foot Fountain boat with twin supercharged V8's  I wonder if he built it like a tank like you did to yours?

Anyway, I'm starting to get the hang of the fiberglassing thing....got a bit of a learning curve to it that you just can't get by reading alone. I've wasted half a gallon of resin, but I think I've got this thing figured out a little bit more now that I've gotten past the getting your hands dirty part. :D

I hope the Oops clan enjoys the time off camping, but keep yourselves safe.

I would imagine they got quite the fire ban on right now...

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I will be there next Saturday. Will have some time to work. Not that good at fairing, better at the mechanical stuff. Will pack my tools, just tell me what to take. Maybe I can get up on the wakeboard this year!!

Have a great day

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

There's a thread in dockside that tells a little of what has been going on around here. Untill we can find a transom seal kit we are dead in the water so to speak.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Thanks for the tip Rob. Got the kit and will arrive friday. Gauges will be here today. We tried iboats but we were trying to get it from the guy that ripped him off ,and the delivery time from the states was going to be very slow. It's oops! birthday today and he'll be excited to hear all this when I can get him.

WOW WOW WOW

I just spent the last 3 days reading this thread from page 1 till the end...

All I can say is WOW what a job!!!

(makes me want to buy that 74 SRV200 I was looking at... maybe someday... :( )

Anyway, Very nice job so far Oops!!! I was going to post my rebuild, but now I'm ashamed to! You have set the bar very very high! The slop job i'm doing is no comparison :(

Sorry about the motor stuff I hope that all works out for you... I wont say anymore on that...

I can't wait to see what this beast is going to look like completed and on the water!

Keep those pics coming! :D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

ok, I'm seriously jonesing for some pics and updates. I went back and re-read a bunch. I figure if I went after it like an animal like Oops did, I would need a bit of a break every once in a while too. I'm going to wait on my re-build till I'm sure that life won't get in the way. Keep fighting the good fight and good luck!

DOH!

Way to go Purolator!

I would expect that from UPS, but I've always had good luck with Puro.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

We got lucky today. PUROLATOR dropped the kit off at a house a few blocks from here. They were given the wrong address so it wasn't really their fault, BUT the address on the box had a 28 in it so they picked a house that had a 28 for the house number, and left it on the front steps early this morning. They never knocked or rang the bell, just left it on the porch??? The weird thing was last night the package was listed as delivered to a address with the correct street name but the wrong house number was 28 on the tracking info on their site so I drove around the crescent to look for a house with a 28 in the address and there was none. I turned around in a condo development and saw a condo 28. I had nothing to lose so I went to the door and asked if they had a box of boat parts and they said no nothing was left there so I apologized for the intrusion and left. This morning I got a call from a woman asking if I was at their house last night looking for a package???? Yes it was me,I said, I have your package was her reply??? The driver found the first house near our house with the #28 on it and left the package on the front porch !!! My phone number was on the box so she called me and I picked it up. I am still in shock that they would knowingly deliver a package to the wrong house and sneak away instead of ringing the bell. Now thats customer service. LOL
